So we went to a local Gun Show yesterday....

And ended up adding to the arsenal. Chas wanted to get a Mossberg for a booger monster gun, and accomplished that mission, w/ a pistol grip included. Now we just need the Zombie chainsaw addition for it, and it'll be perfect!

But my .38 is too big for a carry sidearm, plus it's a revolver, which actually works great for me for "non thinking automatic firing" - but - it's limited. So I scrounged around at the gun show 'til I found a grip / backstrap / feel setup that worked just right for me. It was great, kinda like Goldilocks and finding just the right chair! I can't / won't go all the way tiny compact - I just hate giving up that much accuracy, and even tho' I'm a girl, my hands are too big for them.

This is the compromise I ended up with:

Put about 50 rounds thru it last night - and I definitely gave up some accuracy over the SR9, but it'll do the trick. I just need to get better with it. It's definitely got more kick than the compact and full-framed SR9's too - but it's not bad. Not as bad as the .41 magnum I used to carry / shoot all the time.

Me likey!!! :kewl:

Cool deal, was it a lot cheaper than getting it at a retailer?

I almost went to the local gun show this year, but didnt want to pay the 10 bucks to get in the door, since i didnt figure i was going to buy anything. Maybe next year we'll see, it was also in a very very small building especially for $10, probably only had about 15-20 vendors at the very most. I think next year I'll go to the Reno gun show, its probably more worth my time.

Total gun noob question, but. Do you still have to fill out the back ground check at gun shows? I mean i can pass the BG check but its such a pain, I think I'm just going to find a nice 1911 and get a ccw permit so I dont have to keep filling them out when I go to purchase a new one.

Anyway glad to see you got what you wanted out of your trip.

I think that you still have to fill out the paperwork for the background check if you have a CCW, don't you? I haven't heard otherwise, but then, I'm in Colorado. I don't go to gunshows because I know that I'd walk out with something and I don't want to fill out paperwork. Hell, I'm even going to machine my own AR-15 lower because I don't want to have to put my name on any piece of paper.

If getting a CCW gets away from that, hell, I'd do that in a heartbeat!

But, nice piece!

The LC9 looks like it would fit nice in my hand as well. The last Ruger I owned was an old P89. I like Ruger, may have to look closer at their modern lines. And I have small hands. Just small hands, that's it.

In nevada and like 9 other states (correct me if im wrong) if you have a ccw you dont have to fill out the background check anymore its pretty awesome.
Gotta get a hand gun to get my ccw first though.

Hadn't checked first at local FFL's, since I wasn't actually going to get anything - we were only looking at maybe picking up a shotgun. But in checking now, we got it for well over $100 off Ruger's list, and the dealer we got it from had the best prices there at the show we were at (near Atlanta).

As for the CCW negating the bkgd check - my CCW is in the works, but I don't have it yet, so I had to do the full check. My guy has his CCW, and still had to fill out paperwork, but they didn't call it in. Not sure if they do it in arrears if you have your CCW here, or what. And every state is different, also, so this is just how it worked for us in GA.

I got this particular piece b/c I can release the magazine w/out adjusting my grip at all, and it fits absolutely perfectly, and it's a 9mm vs. the .380 which is kinda common in carry pieces. We have seen a TON of jams, over and over and over, with some of the .380's, which made them less attractive. And I simply can't deal w/ a tiny carry piece, just doesn't work for me on a bunch of levels - one point is definitely that I have large hands for a girl, but still not large enough to fit a number of pistol backstraps/grips "just right" w/out heavy mods. There was also a Bersa that was a good fit, and one other that I'm not remembering at the moment.

As for no paperwork - I totally subscribe to that concept in theory, but crap, once you have your CCW, you're already on one big list of doors to be knocked on ASAP should we ever lose our rights to carry. At that point it won't matter whether & what you own on paper anyway, I figure.

Glad you found something you like Tam. It can be frustrating finding something that carries well and that you can actually shoot well. I shoot my Glock 30 much better then my 19 but the 19 conceals so much better that unless it is cold enough to warrant a jacket I end up carrying the 19.

My feelings as well....hell try filing a few Form 4's for NFA items with the BATF and you know you are definitely on a list. I never worry about it if it comes to the point that they go door to door you can always say ........ Oh I sold all those in a face to face sale. :squW00shy:

Yup, right there with you on what to tell the Man when/if that time comes!

As for getting better with it -- I'm going to see if I can get some lighter rounds for the LCP - at least to practice with at first, and try to gain some better accuracy. I'm not hideous with it - hitting center mass fine at 25-30', but I sure aren't making no impressive groups! Super long trigger pull may not be helping, either - I just need to get more used to it, tho' is the bottom line. I can't imagine how bad I'd probably suck with the LCP, tho'. This is about the most accuracy I'd want to give up... either that, or make a "No Small Bad Guys" rule, LOL.

Do they make any sort of trigger groups or tune up kits that could cure that long trigger pull? What's the pull-off on that trigger?

Maybe a decent gunsmith could fix it up for you. I hate long trigger pulls. I use a local guy for my hunting rifles, it helped my groups a ton at 100yds and further out. My 200yd grouping on my old '06 improved over 2" with a good trigger tune (that was just for fun). He got the pull to around 5lbs or so (I don't have a pull gauge).

Ohio requires that you have a bkrd check for eack firearm even with CCW. BTW I like to carry my full frame .357 for CC. I am a larger guy though

Not sure, Cyclemut. A guy who works at one of the local ranges said he's swapped out for a lighter spring in his, and he recommended trying that. I put another bunch of rounds through it Tuesday night, and just tried to adjust for my dropping the muzzle on the long pull, and did raise my groups higher. Now I'm back hitting the heart vs. the spleen or whatever... LOL. It's not an overly heavy pull, and it's totally smooth / even, it's just the length of it that I need to adjust for, I think. I'm happy with it, it handles great, I just need to get a bunch better with it and get my groups tighter.
