Depends since your some what close if you need help with cutting something, welding something, basic machining, just let me know and I'll see what I can do. I don't really want any projects seems I already don"t have enough time for my own projects. Already have a short list of stuff I need to do to my X that I'm struggling to find time to do. Still need to put these shackles on, then make a new sleeve from my UCA, figure out what is banging up front, shorten the transfer case shifter. mount my garage heater in the garage so I can use the garage during the next few months. Have like a zillion other things on the back burner like a camping trailer, fixing the winch so I can use it this winter, parking brake so I can park.

I understand and my intention wasn't to add to your todo list. Lord knows mine is long enough. I was just inquiring if you did minor/small fab work like brackets/clamps stuff like that. You seem pretty knowledgeable in that area.

Yeah not a problem. Tossed the shackles on was a fight for no reason like it always is when I work on my truck. Ended up making another bushing for the leaf spring with some scrap I had lastnight as the original was never coming out. Cutting the old one apart to save washers. In the end got it on and its more level.

DAMN...those are some beefy azz shackles...would you make me some frame supports? I'm in the market for some...seriously. I've started to redo my rear bumper. No rush...next week will be fine...lol. Really tho...if you feel like making some, let me know what you think they'll cost.

With winter fast approaching I decided to again take a look at why my winch wasn't working. I had diagnosed it as a bad solenoid last year. It would spool out but not in rendering the winch completely worthless. So I decided to have a peek inside to see if it was serviceable. New solenoids are not cheap $50-$125. Being that I've never actually used the winch other then the time I spooled the cable on the winch it should be new right? I mean I even went out of my way to install it in the engine compartment to keep it out of the creeks.

But, it rusted horribly.
2012-10-01_05-07-01_947.jpg

Those little rust nuggets (cylinders) ride in those bores. As you can see one side is so furiously rusted it can't be pulled to the bottom of the bore preventing the contact from contacting.

Cause? a bad seal some place that let moisture in. If you have a smitty silicone it.

Fortunately, looks like some light sanding some grease and it should work again.

Yeah bead blasting cabinet at work works wonders. I hope that was the only issue and the coil wasn't dead. I just sprayed it with some moly dry lube which should control some of the corrosion and lubricate the movement of the solenoid. Later tonight I'll use some RTV and seal it up real good to prevent this corrosion from happening again. After that I hope I never have to lay eyes on the internals again lol.

Winch solenoid fully sealed and back in the location I once had it. By the way works perfectly!

I then turned my attention to the license plate.

It had been zip tied to the bumper for a few years. I figured when if I need the winch it was a matter of snipping the ties and removing the plate.

But, it looked crappy and well lame so I fabbed up some relocation brackets from 1"x 3/4"x5" pieces of Delrin plastic.

Contoured the edge of the plate to allow easy winch access.

Just need to spool my rope and good to go.

Far to clean and precise for that front plate. Makes me feel kind of bad that mine is just held in by the roller fairlead itself.

Haha yours was inspiration to the location. Remember being somewhere in utah miring that license plate location in my rear view mirror. But, with shiny new plates (Illinois offered that I switch from steel to aluminum license plates do to rust issues) it was to pretty to not make a pretty mount.

Two 5/16" bolts thru the shrockworks license plate holes into the brackets. Bumper has holes to mount a plate if you don't have a winch. The holes are to low. If you don't have a winch it's nice as the plate covers the winch opening.

Did some shifty work today.
20121019_182749.jpg

The stock transfer case lever has always been in the way while driving. My 6ft 3" long frame has always been wall to wall in the cab. With new thicker hiking shoes it has gotten worse. I usually ride with the shifter vibrating on my knee. Also slam my fist into the gps charger when shifting the transfer case offroad. So I'm hoping to shorten it 3" and move it closer to the radio. Down and out will prevent interference with the cig lighter and keep it outta the way.

Cut the rubber dampener off the rest was hollow steel which fit over the metal shaft. Fit the shaft over the shifter tube and filled with metal and presto.

First time welding with my new welder. Also first time on flux core wire and a shield that you hold in one hand. Need less to say argon and a helmet are in my future.

Knee clearance is no longer a issue. Maybe its to close to the dash now? ah we'll see i can always adjust the shifter link for fine tuning. Either way feels way more spacious then before.

Thanks I had one of those at my dad's it worked really well. My friend works as a welder and is giving me a Speedglass which should be a huge upgrade over the shield. Gotta make a welding cart to gets lame lifting the heavy beast around.

That winch remodel looks awesome man, looks brand new. Shifter mod was great as well! Im about the same size as you and I can relate to setting my knee on it or slamming my knee on it all the time, lol. High quality work right there.

Swapped mufflers today keeping a stock based design made the most sense for my rig. I use it as a expedition camping type rig so the more quiet and comfortable it is on the highway or otherwise the better. I invested a lot into sound deadening materials in the interior to put a loud exhaust on would be like a counter mod. Well that and it was super cheap via ebay at only $60. As often as exhaust rusts out here in the midwest it makes perfect sense to have a bolt up cheap to replace exhaust.

Stock muffler was rusted apart at the seam.

Stock exhaust was cut shorter after a wheeling trip smashed the tip flat. I'll likely cut this one shorter as well before it gets crushed.

Of course nothing comes apart easily. Here i snapped the bolts off and drilled through the remainder.
20130407_192920_zpsb375a52e.jpg

Managed to drill them to 3/8 for thru bolts.

wala quieter rig.

Much to fix.

Yeah, under the hood iirc. I'm mobile right now so can't look up the exact location.

I'm thinking of the 12v ACC plug that's hot all the time. The actual cig plug that's only on when the keys at ACC is in the cab. On a 1.0, cig is behind the transfer shifter, and ACC is behind transmission shifter. Since you have a 1.5,I have no idea which is which there.

Yeah need to figure out something electricly. I have to much drawn off that outlet. On mine the outlet doesn't provide power. Yet there is power to it as I have it wired to my satellite reciever and usb charge plug which work fine. Perhaps a install of relays and fuse blocks are needed. Keep convicing myself that I should cut a hole under the rear left seat. Weld in a large ammo container to hold additional items perhaps dual batteries. Some day maybe.

Picked up some hub covers for the front via ebay. The seller had touch up paint on them where the paint once wore off. I had planned to cut them out so didn't care it just made the price lower. I don't believe Nissan ever made open desert runner caps.

Thanks! also did some basic maintenance today.

Changed the diff and transfer case oil. Transfer case was nasty I'm hoping that its still doing ok since I inspected it when I rebuilt the trans.

Got tired of the tail pipe hanging out like a sore thumb.

Chopped it off no worries of boulders pinching it off.

Changed the engine oil, one mod I forgot to tell about was the magnetic oil plug.

Had a few flakes of metal on it nothing serious however it was nice to remove those flakes from the engine oil.

Did a little stone chip repair. The paint on the back gate is rather thin. With the way the wind travels over the truck the rear gate must get blasted with rocks. Every winter requires sealing the chips.

Did the left ball joint.

Added and subtracted to my x repair list.

Yeah all the hardware was removed. The 4 bolts which secure it. SLR UCA's so they're actually Pathfinder Ball joints installed on my truck. But, the video shows the press which also works great for tie rods to. Many people struggle trying to beat them off with hammers so i thought I would show my press.
