Shopping for a digital torque wrench

Looking for ideas and suggestions.

I want to purchase a digital (electronic) torque wrench with a range of approximately 4 to 35 ft-lb. Currently have an old style click torque wrench designed for a range of 35 to 210 ft-lb. Seems to work well enough though I may replace it with a digital version once I figure these things out.

This ACDelco ARM601-3 3/8-Inch Digital Torque Wrench has a range of 3.7 to 37 ft-lb. and is inexpensive at C$142 but lacks some of the features of the more recent digital torque wrenches. You can compare with more recent ACDelco models by scrolling down.

Guess the first question that should be asked is, “what’s your budget?”

Because a really good one, that starts with an S and ends with nap-on, is gonna cost ya. But the one I have goes 5-125 lb-ft, converts to lb-in, n-m, angle find, and beeps, lights, & vibrates when you reach the correct torque. It’ll probably give you a reach-around if you ask it nicely, and it better for the price you’ll pay for it. But I use mine almost every day, and it is damned nice.

Budget: Not too sure. $300 max? Your Snap-on ATECH2FR125B costs C$760.... Yup, that is pricey. What are the confidence intervals? This one would cover just about everything required on an X so I definitely see the appeal.

From the moment, I am reasonably happy with the cheap clicker for anything in excess of 40 ft-lb.

My company pays to have it calibrated annually. On the last check, it needed no adjustment. I actually got mine for $500 because I paid cash, and the interest is built into the cost of the tool if you pay over time. I do about 90% of my work with it. I only bust out my good ole Snap-On clicker when I’m doing heads or something bigger… or I just want to be old school and hear that click-click sound it makes when I hit the torque in all the right ways.
