I've never tried to sell on eBay. What are the ins and outs?

Tips for new sellers?

Got a bunch of stuff I should probably sell

The biggest thing I try and do is get my auctions to end between the hours of 6-10p Fri-Sun, that's when the most traffic is on ebay. More people bidding on things that are about to end.

Descriptions and pics are 99% of the sale, like anywhere else.

Like others have stated, look at what things are going for then price your item accordingly, you may be surprised either way by how much or little stuff is going for. I've been on both ends of that spectrum..

I put stuff on eBay pretty regularly. Biggest thing for me is searching completed listings and finding out what things are actually selling for. That gives you a listing floor for what you can/might get for it.

You can never have too many pictures

I try to use thier prefilled item things where possible, but I always spell everything out in the description. Be as clear and thorough as you can.

Payment it seems is now set up thru them and secured. I use PayPal to pay for items but when listing they take care of collecting and require a bank routing # to deposit acquired funds.

How is shipping dealt with?
You can either weigh and measure what you're selling and pick a carrier and their system will calculate the shipping or you can declare that you're going to charge a dollar amount (or not if offering free shipping).

After the auction ends and you get paid you buy the shipping label directly from eBay. Print it, tape it, and drop off your box at whatever service you chose.

Then after 1 business day they transfer what you got paid minus thier fee and minus what you paid for shipping directly ACHd into your bank account.

I'm glad they eliminated PayPal as thier money processor. You actually get to keep more of your money since you don't have to pay both the eBay fee and the PayPal fee.

Also remember. The ACH giveth and the ACH can taketh away. So make sure to weigh and measure your packages accurately when you pay for postage. If you under estimate, the carrier will hit eBay for the difference and since eBay already paid you, they'll just ACH that overage charge right out of your bank account.

Almost seems like a larger sale price with shipping included is easier. Although is it correct that ebay gets part of your sales price, not your shipping charges? so selling an item for $45 gives them more money than selling it for $10+$35 shipping?

If you do the calculated shipping then eBay doesn't take anything. But if you do dollar value shipping they include that in thier fee structure

Be sure to charge enuff for shipping and eBay fees. I stated shipping to US only.
I sold a book for 5$ and 5$ shipping. Ebay took 1.60 for their cut, .30 due to buyers address on file being in Canada and then the address I had to ship to was in HI so it cost me 7$ plus 2$ for the envelope. Free books anyone, I'm your guy!
