Peter’s Mill?
Flagpole?
Long Run (north end)?

All of the above? I’ve been itching to get out, but open to whatever works. Day, night, whatever.

Update 5/17: Alright, we're camping along Long Run Rd Saturday. Still need to decide on meetup place/time, and still need to figure out where we want to do some offroading Sunday. Looking at available routes now.

Update 5/19: Plan is to camp near Bald Knob on Long Run Rd this Saturday with a little trail exploration earlier in the day, then on Sunday depart Long Run to the north, circle west and south through WV to Flagpole Knob, then go down Union Springs. Peter's Mill Run on the way back toward DC.

Meetup: noon Saturday at 7-11 at 325 S Main St, Timberville, VA 22853
There’s an Exxon on site with Walmart, Food Lion, Walgreens, and auto parts within a traffic light.

What is Long Run? Haven’t heard about that trail before.

That’s a recording I did if the southern half of it. Right now most of that is closed but we can enter from the north. It just becomes an out-and-back.

It’s an easy fire road that honestly most stock CUVs/SUVs could handle but some epic views and hangout/camp spots. Here’s a video of last time I was there: https://streamable.com/wazdmj and there’s a few more pics in this thread where we went to that spot to grill burgers and hang out: https://www.xterranation.org/index....n-rd-second-mountain-dictum-ridge-runs.10272/

Haha, yeah Long Run is also the way to get to Second Mountain and Dictum Ridge, both very much technical and with DEEP mud holes.

ive been itching to get out as well but I'm busy this weekend :(
I'm also open for a night run during the week. Days vary, but I could probably get out to PMR tonight or Friday night.

Updated the title and original post! Exploring routes now. Being able to exit the south would make it easy to hit Flagpole or something Sunday, but looking at available routes/options now. Definitely want to explore a couple side trails on the way out of Long Run though.

A couple options. We have no choice but to exit Long Run Rd on the north side. From that point, we could circle back down to Switzer Lake (50 mins), or go to Flagpole Knob directly (75 mins) to go down Union Springs or Dunklehollow.

Peter’s Mill Run (Edinburg Gap) is 66 mins from the same spot and on the way home for everybody I know that’s coming for sure so far. We could go direct to that or just tack it on to hit on the way back from one of the others.

I’m up for any of that at this moment.

I vote for Flagpole and down Union Springs. I’ve only gone up Union. I’m game to add Peter’s Mill as well.
Alright, let’s call that the plan. I’d hope based on timing that going down would mean less traffic coming the other way. And PMR we can play by ear based on how we’re feeling at whatever time we’re going back up the highway.

Sounds good. Let me know where and when to meet Saturday. I’ll grab a couple bundles of wood for camping.

Ended up being Club Red X this weekend (FWIW, Flame, Carmine, and Cayenne are the three Nissan red colors pictured), and we had a great time.

We set up camp at the overlook near Bald Knob on Long Run Rd and found some shade to drink beer and wait for temps to cool and bugs to flee from the wind. Cooked a good dinner over the fire and later on the rain dictated bedtime.

Sunday we explored one of the side roads to check out a potential alternate campsite for the future, then headed the back way to Flagpole Knob. The back way had us go down Rough Run Rd into WV, which had plenty of beautiful water crossings and led us out to some nice countryside. We rolled into an empty (strangely) Flagpole Knob, then headed down Union Springs. During the descent we caught a vicious rain storm that made the rocks extra slick for us. The sun was back out long before we got to the bottom and aired back up. We stopped at the car wash in Harrisonburg before heading back up the road.

Was really nice to have low key time to just hang out and chat, and then to explore some new roads as well.
