Reverse light install.

So I had a few requests for a write up on my rear lights, this is what I did.

I carefully removed the inside bolt on the rear roof rack mount. Nissan uses rivnuts here so be careful, if they spin, you will have to take the head liner down to access them. Replaced it with a longer M6 1.0 bolt. I used a washer, an over sized nut for a spacer, and another washer to get the light bracket high enough to clear the rack mount. Use a shot of silicon to seal things up. Tighten up the bolt and install your lights. Be careful not to over tighten and spin the rivnut.

I used Hella FF75's first then switched to KC 517 back up flood lights for better light coverage. They are wired to a 3 way switch so they come on with the reverse lights or I can turn them on anytime.

I tapped into the reverse lights, sky blue wire, in the drivers side wire harness here. (Stole this pic from TNX)

Tom, I'm not sure how electrically handy you are, but is there anyway that you can write up a schematic for how you did the wiring? I want to do some, but I wasn't sure how to do it. Thanks man!

This is the diagram that comes with the KC lights. I used a DPDT switch so the reverse light wire went to the switch then to the relay. Hope this helps. If you get the switch from OTRATTW, it comes with a diagram also.

Thanks Johann.

As you can see in the pics, KC's hardware rusts up pretty quickly. I'll be getting some SS bolts to put in their place.

very nice! i hope to do this sometime in the future. i made my own bumper mouth bracket and put wally world lights on it (platinum burners)...I know obviously the better the brand the better the light (generally), but what i'm trying to get at is, what type of light is that? a flood? driving?
great idea, and thanks!

I have the KC flood lights on there now. You can see them here.

The oval ones in the pic are Hella FF75's. They are in the bumper mouth now, they are driving lights.

awesome, well done! so floods, got it. I love my lights in my bumper mouth! they are just the cheap wally world ones, but 4 of em do some lighting up!
are the existing screws on the roof rack hard to get off? i've heard something about dropping them into the headliner, something i don't want to do...

The factory bolts have thread lock on them. I tightened them just a little to break them loose then took them out slowly. No power tools on them. If they spin the only way to get them out is to take the headliner down and hold the riv nut.

exactly! tighted a little, loosen a little, tighten a litte more, loosen a little more, etc, etc...
you have to break the locktite in the threads w/o breaking the nutsert. there's a pretty fine line between the two

also, in regards to the writeup, good stuff btw, but, MAKE SURE YOU PICK THE RIGHT SKY BLUE WIRE IN THE BUNDLE. the other one controls your power lock circuit. I tapped the wrong one originally, now my doors lock and unlock at random times. whoops!
