Remote windows up/down aftermarket

Looking for that remote feature to control windows up and down. Came across this and while it looks legit without knowing the wiring of the x’s windows, wanted to see if anyone has any experience with it.

Not sure what year your X is, but these are similar. I’d verify this first with yours before you trust this schematic. This is for a 2015.

Looks like it gets power from pin 68 on the BCM, and that’s going to be switched power. We know this because the windows don’t go up or down when the key is off. That’s important because it’s hard to say what could happen if you backfeed 12 VDC to the BCM should you land your wires on the wrong side of the up/down switches at the doors. So be careful there.

On the driver side, you’ve got the main switch. That’s the big box in the middle with all 4 up/down switches, as well as the driver side express down that rolls the window down all the way with one touch. I’m not sure how the module you shared works internally, but it looks like you’d want to intercept driver side front at pins 1 and 2 on the motor connector. Not sure how the kit intends for you to splice in, but there are some options... some more janky than others. For passenger side, I’d go right to pins 1 and 2 between the switch and the motor.

Now that being said, it’s hard to say how many milliamps these modules are going to draw when installed. And they do draw them. This may or may not be an issue with the BCM. The network may or may not see that current draw, and may or may not turn the money light on. So there’s that to watch out for. The CAN network is very sensitive to these things, and I can say from my experience troubleshooting Caterpillar CAN bus issues, they can be a real PITA.

Caveat emptor.
