Mustang got traded in this sunday, I originally went to see about how much my dream pick up was gonna wind up costing me and compare trim levels in person. Wound up talking about the new bronco, test drove a new heritage edition and was about to leave when the salesman commented that they had a used one that was a bit of a good deal.
Priced at 40k, got a piece of paper from jd power that says its worth 44, not sure why.

It is a 22 Badlands (most off road features of any of em sans raptor), yes with the big tires "sasquatch package" 2 door in area 51. 2.7L with 10 speed auto

couple the price with the mustang being within 1k of its loan to value, somehow actually built equity on a truck I've wanted to have for a long time, and yes, I loved my mustang, but I didn't really get to enjoy it, and I felt horrible using it as a dd, crawling in it after a long day covered in dirt and grease, I'll buy another when I'm in a life position that can tolerate what that should have been, a well kept weekend car instead of me tearing it up. Bronco has marine grade vinyl seats and rubber floors :) and so far, I really like this little truck, it turns unbelievably well, I'm not quite sure how they pulled it off, ecoboost engine has lots of zoom zoom, oddly more than a vg33.
and one more nice bonus, between lower interest rate on loan, positive equity and insurance because its not the worlds most crashed car, it runs me $300 less a month.

So far it’s been super comfy(heated seats is nice, guess I’m getting old), cheaper fuel (runs bueno on e15) and a sick lower payment and insurance. I keep looking at mods but it really doesn’t need anything performance wise, I’m thinking air compressor some lights and a winch, oh and a trailer hitch

Nice lil truck man. Score!

Whaat?!
Yup, not only is it what they had it’s what I wanted, even if I’m a 3 pedal fan.

1st is id rather have the 2.7 than the 2.3, other than a parts supplier issue early in the broncos life the 2.7 is proven to be a pretty durable little engine.

2nd is the 7 speed is made by getrag, same people that build the mt82 that was in the mustang, known for failure and having very shiatty ratios, one reason when/if I get another stang I’ll opt for one with a tremec

So. In summary, 2.7>2.3 and not sure I trust the trans supplier, 2.7 mated to that 10 speed hauls ass and gets around 20 mpg either freeway or in town, on eco 88

Took it to scout a potential job in Utah (green river) and naturally stopped in Moab on the way back to see how well it does off road, hells revenge and the signs of the times, Moab part is almost over IMG_1776.jpegIMG_1777.jpegIMG_1778.jpegIMG_1779.jpegIMG_1780.jpegIMG_1781.jpegIMG_1782.jpeg

And here’s a big reason I disagree with ford on semi syn oil and 10k oil changesIMG_1775.jpeg
For a bone stock truck, it’s pretty kick ass, it will turn harder than anything else I’ve ever driven, it’s just stupid.
The hood is too long, greatly hinders visibility especially with no slope to it, I got out and spotted myself numerous times
Factory skids took a few hits but you can’t tell it, overall this is one kick ass from the factory 4x4

K so things to do since I put it in 4 lo for the first time

yes, I wheeled what on the trail sign says you need 35's lockers front and rear even though most here will attest that is not needed, in a totally stock non sasquatch bronco (yes it has things like electronic sway bar disconnect, 5 link rear, e lockers front and rear so its not like a totally stock x) but I scrapped a few more times than I'd like, and well, a few things for improvement and this little fella will be a trail slayer that you can comfortably dd or do highway trips with

I've decided I'm gonna do narrow 35's, like really narrow 35's, 35x10.5R17 in fact

on, haven't totally decided
or

with a 2 inch (ish) lift

and skid plates

and a few other goodies from ford performance

like a winch kit

and lights

and a compressor cause airing down (and up) is important

none of this will happen tomorrow, or next month, or the month after that as I have a lot to pay for and a lot plan for if I'm gonna make the move to utah, and even if I don't.....

been doing some research in bronco land, apparently I don't need the high dollar lift kit to clear 35's, delete crash bars and 1" level and zen it is party time

so this little guy went to what was suppoused to be the xterra event because my vg33 did a thing most vg33's do and blew a head gasket. I feel I have wheeled this thing enough to be real dead ass honest with ya, love it or hate it

this is the coolest 4x4 rig on sale today. bar none, for a totally stock truck, what I've asked it to do, and its done with relative ease, is very impressive, a lot of built rigs didn't make it to the base of the wall yet alone up it, these include a built jk, and a new land cruiser already on 35's (i'm on 33's) yes I hit the skids a few times, but they took it and you'll never know, and with a good line choice, it went up the wall like it was in a parking lot, I drove it to and from silverton, got 26/27 avg mpg, had plenty of power, plenty of comfort, it looks phenomenal and since I'm weird, has enough quirks to make it loveable, things like the removable top whistles, and sometimes when the right turn signal self cancels it turns on the left turn (dunno) will it be reliable long term? always hoping, but even if not, I love it so much its worth it to me. The good lord ford doesn't always get it right, but they knocked this one out of the park. I love my first not a total shiatbox 4wd very much.bb17.jpgbb13.jpgbb11.jpgbb3.jpg

Pretty much a general statement. Good driving can get a shiatty rig in places that great rigs with stupid drivers will never get to.
Sometimes you wonder if they are blind the way they just drive straight up and down. Didn’t see that as much back in the day when proper 4wd were manual steering and transmission.

This is something I harp on all the time. Too many vehicles come with one or even two lockers now and get inexperienced drivers in situations they aren't prepared for.

We had a stent where some "daddy's money" boys got in our club and were going from stock YJs and 80s broncos to fully built, hydro steer buggies on tons and 40s and they spent more time replacing broken shafts and links than actually wheeling.

Some people just can't see the line. Either due to inexperience or a lack of forward thinking. That said, technology is definitely killing that skill. Also, money can't fix stupid.

Old shiat is better.
