Recovery Point?

Hi all, I’ve got some questions about where the OEM recovery Hook is located on the Xterra, and perhaps I could tap into some tribal knowledge and experience here.

it seems to me like the factory tow Hook is bolted to the bottom of the crumple zone on the frame?

My initial thought was to make some recovery points out of at least 1/2” angle iron with large enough holes to accommodate a 3/4” shackle. But I’m not so sure now. Seems to me it would be an odd place to put a hook. But being as I don’t have a ton of experience yanking rigs out of precarious situations, I’m not certain how it would affect the frame if I did need to use this location.

a friend suggested welding some tabs to the crash bar, and cutting holes in the fascia for them to go through, but I’m sure sure on that idea either. As much as I’d love a new bumper with recovery points built in, it’s just not in the cards right now.

what do you think? Is the frame location where the OEM Hook a good place to put something with more beef? What have you guys done?

Those look pretty good. I also found some from Habitat that have some beef that goes up on the outside of the frame to help with rigidity. They are about $200. So I might get those. I don’t plan on using them much, but I’d rather not bend my frame with that shoddy hook that Nissan slapped in there, SMDH.
