rebuilt 2009 Off Road found on Craigslist -- Help

Aspen

Test Drive
Hello. Not yet an Xterra owner but trying to be. I live a mile and a half up a private lane in Colorado and sometimes conditions are grim. Spotted this rig on Craigslist, billed as an Off Road, which I was looking for for the gearing and skid plates. I don't see the extra lights or Off Road sign on the back. Any of you more experienced Xterra guys (gals) have an opinion? Many thanks from a newbie.

Welcome from Denver!

That is absolutely not an Off Road. It's an S. It doesn't have the locker as there is no switch for it in the center stack. The early 09 Off Road trim level also had Off Road badges on the doors, but no badge on the back. That wasn't added until late 2010 when it became the Pro4X. When it did that it lost the door badges, got the roof boob lights, a d the Pro4X badge on the back.

It is a 6sp 4x4. Which does have the better rear axle, just without the locking diff. It also isn't susceptible to the dredded SMOD because of the transmission. Given the age, mileage, and condition, my max would be 5k on that truck.
