The NEXTerra Northern Exposure Run at Rausch was a great success this year!
30 trucks started the day.
LizardKing’s Green Group had 7 trucks.
Primerhb55’s Green Group started out with 8. One truck started having ABS issues and ended parking. The driver rode with one of the other guys. So it was 7 rigs most of the day.
TomsRedX Blue Group had 5 total; 4 Xterra's and the Range Rover.
Black Group had 5 trucks. 2 Jeeps and 3 Xterra’s including mine.
Keith (LizardKing), Tim (Primerhb55) and Tom (TomsRedX), thanks again for all your help. Taking a lead as you did is the reason these types of events happen.
Everyone got out alive although a couple of folks had trouble airing back up at days end due to caked on ice covering frozen valve stems. De-icer would probably be a good idea to pack during the winter. I grease mine and make sure there are caps on them before every run; summer, winter, whatever so I had no trouble.
The “Black” group ran a bunch of trails without any major incident until the end of day. We ran “4” to warm up and were the first ones one the trail. Kinda fun being the first one through a snow covered trail except when you don’t remember where a water hole is and fall through. I broke through one at the beginning of the trail and had to winch out.
After we went over to the South property and ran TfT and then breezed through “13” that is normally a killer. Last year we were on it all day wrenching in the freezing rain until after dark.
We then did 19-B and 23. Justin broke through the ice into some deep swampy mud, popped a bead and then had the bright idea of having Igor push him out of a stuck a bit further down the trail. That was it for the group and we made our way out.
O’Neil’s for dinner then back to the campground and passed out.
Had some breakfast the next morning at the dinner and headed home. On the way back to Brooklyn Guy’s Jeep would not shift into high gear and we ended up waiting off of 78 a bit over two hours for AAA to show up with a flat-bed.
It was a fun weekend, challenging wheeling with a great group. I hope everyone had a great time and will join us at the next NEXTerra run!
