Ragnar build thread

Been lurking in the shadows for a bit and finally decided to start something.

Backstory: I'm 23 and I've owned the x for about 3 years now and I've fallen in love with it. I've spent the last 3 years reading over the forums and planning a build, which means changing my mind every 5 seconds on what exactly I want to do haha. On my way to work last week and said ya know what I'm tired of it being so stock lets do this so here I am.

Year: 2004
Engine: 3.3l V6 (non supercharged)
4wd
Gears: 4.9
Nickname: Ragnar

Its completely stock right now in its current state

Plans for the build:

Lift: 3 inch suspension lift from 4x4parts going with the add a leaf for now, not doing a body lift right now cause while yes it does give room for bigger tires I'm not a huge fan of body lifts. Ordering that this week.

Steering: Grassroots centerlink (I'm on the waitlist for one right now), idler arm brace from 4x4 parts, HD tie rod adjusters from 4x4 parts, and I think for now I'm gonna go with duralast tie rod ends for both outer and inner.

Rear bumper: shrockworks rear bumper/ tire carrier
Front bumper: rlcweld fab front bumper

Wheels: Ive always loved the American racing BAJAs so im gonna stick with those and I will probably get some Goodyear ultraterrain in 32s

Cargo rack: Gonna get the xterra cargo rack from 4x4 parts.

So far that's all I've fully decided on, its an overland build so I'm still debating how I want to setup the interior and lights.

This build will probably happen overtime cause I work full time and I'm in school so it will be a slow and steady process but I'm looking forward to finally doing what I've been talking about for years haha.

I threw some photos in of the x and my co pilot Sago

Nice man. Those first gens are slow as ufck, but great rigs. I have no plans to get rid of mine.

I'm running a pml, and haven't felt the need to lift mine anymore than that yet.

Are you planning on any sort of storage system for the back? Lights?

As you push it farther off grid, you'll get a better idea of what to do to make it work for you.

For example, I'm going to be swapping my battery for a dual purpose rv battery here shortly. I'm tired of the fridge coming loose from my portable power station when I'm bouncing around in the desert mountains.

yeah so I've got a general idea on what I wanna do for storage. the plan is to do a pull out rail mount for the fridge and build it with a lock so it doesn't roll around. then probably add in a single drawer system to the side of that where I can also pull out the top as a counter. my kitchen setup is pretty basic I just run a tembotusk to cook on and its great or ill carry a mini Trager. to power all of that I have a Ark Pak Portable Battery Box that I have sitting just behind the passenger seat that pretty much can run anything I need. the plan for the lights is a light bar up top with pods for ditch lights sitting in front of the windshield on the sides. also a mini light bar off of the back to add as a camping light and run a led light on the inside of the back hatch so I can have light when the hatch is open.

In the future I do plan on doing the supercharger swap from the supercharger that came with these just to add a little umph, I've driven one with a supercharger before and loved it. Also down the line there will be an SAS but right now its still my daily so I'm going to hold off on that for a minute.

Nice. Sounds like a solid plan.

Just for inspiration, here's what I've built in the back of mine:

I've since added a diy tilting fridge slide on the driver's side, but this has been working very well for my needs so far.

Thanks! It's made life much easier when camping. Though, mine isn't a daily. I found the original plans on the forums here. Instead of two separate drawer boxes though, I did it all as one piece.

I used 1x10 boards for the uprights. I ripped them to 8.5 inches tall.

Well bad news. Just got the word today that the X is gonna be totaled. Got rear ended last week and while when you first look at the back it doesn’t look bad. The frame is bent and there’s a ton of exhaust damage as well as a crossbar and suspension issues. But once again proves these things are a tank.699E1B33-677E-4BF8-8A53-D6529A9AB5BD.jpeg0A068241-E22E-420A-8676-6A50B816BC7D.jpeg

so if its driveable, and the frame is slightly tweaked and you can buy it back, can be like my buddy with his 3rd gen dodge and just drive your totalled truck, he too got rear ended and the thing drove home and hte frame is tweaked but you'd never know
