I am about to pull the trigger on a 2012 pro4x from a private seller. When I ran the car fax on it it shows as 2012 NISSAN XTERRA OFF ROAD/S/SE. It has pro4x seats, floor mats, roof rack with lights switch for the lights appears oem, hill decent, locking diff. No badge on the rear. Am I getting scammed or is that normal for it to show up like that?

I just saw the model number decoding thread I will be checking that when I take it to my mechanic for the pre purchase inspection.

Carfax might have their wires crossed. Definitely verify with the VIN before buying. Mine was missing the Pro-4X badge when I bought it. But all the accessories you listed off appear to fit the bill for a Pro-4X. Check the rear diff to see that it has wires sticking out of it. Definitely a sign there’s a locker in there.

Off Road is Pro-4X. It’s normal to list all three. If it has all the stuff you mention, you have nothing to worry about.

Yes look at any Carfax and you’ll see they do not specify the trim level. It’s just a catch all that covers all trims from that year and is sometimes out of date.

Besides all the other correct features the OP noted, if it’s an automatic you can also count the bolts on the rear diff cover. 12 bolts = M226 = an Off Road / Pro4X.
