You have an m205 right? They are known to spit up oil out the breather if they are too full. Might want to check that (on the firewall side of the air filter box).

How do you overfill a front diff?...tip the truck on it's side?...lol

I've seen people do crazier things lol! The m205 is known to leak out the diff breather (that L shaped piece that the hose clips onto) so I asked them to check it.

Anyway took it to Boulder Nissan as per @Prime 's recommendation. They were awesome, looks like only the rear diff is leaking. All the other wet spots were still dry from when I wiped them so probably not a concern. They think Monday it should be good to go unless they find something else. I might have to cut a bit out of the Ouray portion until the end of September/first week of October, but at least I won't have my diff die on me on a trail.

It was funny they thought the Krown oil spray all over the truck was spray from old leaks. I just about laughed out loud at them, but if you've never seen and oil-sprayed vehicle before can't say I blame them. I rented a van to kick around until I get the call to pick it up.

Boulder Nissan is a big GONE sponsor, and they have absolutely no issues with highly modified trucks. Probably your best bet for help. Glad you're getting taken care of.

Go kick around downtown Denver, the 16th street mall area is interesting. If ya like "sports" the Tilted Kilt is a good place to watch.... You'll know what I mean if ya go.

Sadly, Tilted Kilt close down two years ago on 16th Street Mall - turned into Burnt Barrel. Sports Bar without the scenery. They closed down less then a year later.

Yeah, I don't think anyone out here undersprays their vehicles. Ha

Well got the Xterra back today. Wasn't a cheap fix overall, $133 for car rental and then $525 to fix the diff cover leak. I just about choked when they told me how much but at least they squeezed me in to get it done. They were booking a couple weeks ahead already.

Yikes! That's a stiff price for a diff cover pull and refill.

Really happy you are able to continue with your epic adventure though.

If nothing else drive Imogene. Try Yankee boy and governors for a day, or better yet drive up mineral creek, towards engineer, down to anamas forks, up California, over to Hurricane, and down corkscrew...... that, is one of the best days of stunning scenery you’ll ever have..... seems like a lot, but it’ll take you about 5-7 hours, starting in ouray and back to it.

Best travels!

It's the long drive from Golden, CO that kills it. Figured I'd combine the long drive from Golden with the one leg of the Alpine Loop. Since I technically only have one full day around Ouray now, I'm going to use the full day to do Yankee Boy and Governors and Imogene on my way to Moab. I'll be back in the area at the end of September so I can grab a couple more of these spots.

Well changed the plans up yet again. After hitting up Moab and doing Top of the World with @AlbatrossCafe and his buddy, we drove out to Fish Lake. I had rented a cabin for two nights for like $45. Apparently the Pelican Point Campground at Fish Lake that google maps shows doesn't exist. That also means the reservation for Pelican Point I had was for a different place....in North Dakota LOL! I called them and they told me it happens a lot and that I should mention it in the comments when I apply for a refund.

Anyway ended up looking around Fish Lake and camping in Torrey for a night. Drove hwy 12 today and it was a really nice drive, good call @IM1RU! I'm currently in Cedar City for the night before going out to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon tomorrow.

Back in Moab for a few days. Anyone know an easy way to re-seat the balljoint rings that hold the boot in place? Mine have slid off the spc balljoint. I tried forcing it by hand to no avail, I wanted to ask before trying with the needle nose pliers.

it's a split ring (think of a slinky that wraps around the boot 1 1/2 times), you should be able to slide it down toward the steering knuckle, slide the boot back up into place and then wind the split ring back up into place.

It might be easier to do with it disconnected from the steering knuckle.

Iv'e replaced a few SPC ball joint boots, and that's how I've always done it.

Ah ok, I’ll try again back at the campsite.

Just make sure you wipe the grease from around the ball joint seat, and the inside of the boot so you get a reasonable seal.....

You may also want to go get a few pumps of new grease in there before heading out on the trails.

There’s lots in there, I think maybe too much and that’s why the rings slid off? Worst case I leave it as is and fix it when I get home. Does seem like a dumb design though.

Too much grease could pop off the boot, but absolutely DO NOT WAIT... You will ruin the ball joint if any water or debris gets in there,. It's an easy job.

As for design, I've never had one slip off, and at least they are replaceable, and easily and cheaply at that.

I fixed it, was still packed with grease, but it probably all has to come apart when I get home anyway for a good cleaning and re-grease. I think limit straps are in my future.

Left my sunglasses ($200 Oakleys) on the bumper while on break on Chicken Corner. I turned around not 2 min after I realized and some motor bike a holes we just passed took them. I really liked those glasses :( .

Glad you got it taken care of.
Did you go all the way to the end of Chicken corners?

I LOVE THAT DRIVE! It is one of the prettiest places on the planet IMO.

Yeah, it was a great drive...until the sunglasses thing.

So this happened before but I forgot about it:

Looks like the tires are catching on the control arm....anyone know of this happening or a fix for it?

I'm not sure I even understand how it would happen. The physical relationship of the LCA's, UCA's, spindle and wheel doesn't change through the suspension cycle. It's like moving one side of a parallelogram.

Is there a corresponding rub mark on the tire?

It does look to me like your camber adjustment is set to be a little more inboard than I'm used to seeing on Titian UCA's.

Maybe @jsexton can offer some insight.

Guess when I get home I’ll have to try with the balljoint all the way back and get an alignment.

Well, last night in Moab, back to Ouray for a couple days. Already have a list of things to do for next year. Listing them here before I forget:

Clean balljoint boots and re-grease
Fix the control arm alignment so the tires don't hit
Limit straps cause 650lb springs like to blast into the holes a bit too much
Rear shocks cause mine are inadequate (bouncy bouncy no more!)
Titan brake booster and slave
Finally install my front locker
Possibly get a different arm for the rear bumper that has the hitch for a bike rack

I'm sure I'm missing something, but I can't quite remember.

If he was aired down and in a situation where it was pulling the bottom of the tire outward I could see the top of the tire leaning in and contacting.

It doesn't appear to be causing any damage, so I wouldn't worry about it myself. But you could probably ease the ball joint outboard a little and they can chase it with the cam bolts.
