PCV and it's hoses

I have a 2001 Xterra with the 2.4 engine. I replaced my PCV a few years ago. The new PCV has been on there for around 2 years. I am now seeing my oil dipstick popping out about an inch. I am guessing from over pressure in the engine. Today I noticed oil mist spraying from the rear of the valve cover oil seal. I replaced this valve cover gasket 2 years ago . Could the PCV have gone bad this fast to have caused this over pressure and oil leaking ? I have had many cars and trucks never need a new PCV. Are there any other hoses associated with the PCV that I may not can see that may be clogged ? Any information is appreciated.

It definitely seems like the crankcase is being pressurized. I would pull the valve and any of the connected hoses and check them.

If you pull the pcv out with the engine running at idle you should hear a hiss from the air flowing through it. If you put your finger on the end you should feel a strong vacuum. If you don't hear or feel this I'd start by replacing the pcv it's probably stuck. I tried to find a good picture of the system but it doesn't seem to exist - the other portion of the pcv is most likely a hose running from the valve cover to the intake tubing somewhere to allow filtered air in. Make sure none of the hoses have become weak and collapsed causing a lack of air flow. How many miles are on the engine? Seem a fair amount of blow by

Not sure where you're from but yeah it's cold as heck in Colorado as well. Extreme cold can increase clearances in the cylinders and cause more blow by on start up ( I've worked on some that when it's cold you get a banging from the engine - piston slap - that goes away as they warm). Still seems like a fair amount of pressure building up. Another thing to check would be if it sounds like your exhaust when you pull your oil filler cap. see 2:36 of this video.

Sucks if you have to replace the gasket again.

Ok , Where is the location of the hose that gets the pressureized air out of the crankcase ? Is it there around the alternator and oil filter on the 2.4 liter ?

Ok, it's cold as heck here where I live so I am waiting for it to warm up in a few days to take this Xterra apart. Until then , I am trying to find out exactly where the PCV system begins , where does it begin where it sucks air out of the crank case ? I know where the valve is but isnt there a plastic box there too ? I should probably remove it all down to the block/cranks case and clean it all. It is just so gard to get to all this mess. have any of you guys removed it all ? Any pics of the begining area behind the PCV valve ? Also , if I didnt mention it , before I noticed the valve cover gasket leak , I have been having erratic idling too which also makes me think it could be the PCV valve or it's system.

The only picture I have from Alldata which is a online repair manual shops use shows nothing really. There is also no description of the system. So I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help. I'll try and find some more info online. Here is what I do have ( not that it will probably help much ) Based off of this looks like the PCV is in the intake and that some tube runs down to the side of the block.
