P&P Engineering Skids - Fit up

Does anyone on this forum have experience with skid plates from P&P Engineering? I ordered a set of aluminum skid plates and steel sliders that I received on 12/30. Since then I've been trying to work with them on the fit-up and installation because I don't think what I received was fabricated correctly. The front skid plate (they call this the engine skid plate) hangs down almost 4" lower than my control arm. If anyone has a similar skid from them in either aluminum or steel I'm very interested in knowing the dimension at the control arm. See Photos.

My point here isn't to just gripe but try to understand what the issue is and how these products fit on other Xterras. My Xterra has a mild suspension lift but no body lift or anything that may affect what I'm seeing. This skid plate hangs down so low I'd be afraid of getting high-centered on any rutted road. I've had issues with the other skid plates I ordered as well, for instance slotted holes that are too big for the carriage bolts provided and a missing mounting point on the gas tank skid, but all of those at least maintain a tight fit to the underside of the vehicle.

I don't have any experience with this company but I've not heard great things about them (P&P stands for 'Pay and Pray', lots of caveat emptor warnings, etc.) and I agree that doesn't look right.

The tiny, poorly lit product photos on their site aren't much help to compare, but they don't appear to hang down quite as low. How are the radiator and engine skids supposed to tie together?

They have videos on Youtube for installation and they definitely don't hang down this far, but cannot tell a dimension. The radiator skid has slotted holes that accept carriage bolts that should drop in from above and allow the engine skid to bolt to the radiator skid. That's the idea, at least. My carriage bolts don't get captured by the slots in the radiator skid (slots are too big) so the nut/washer just spin when I try to install. Reversing the bolt direction would work if there were any access to tighten the nut in that configuration (there isn't).

So the slots in your radiator skid are too wide to capture the square of the carriage bolt. That's fixable but annoying for sure.

The angles on all their photos and videos are tricky. I can't find any examples where the photo / video was taken head on, it's always from a low angle that makes it hard to judge what it's supposed to look like.

it does look like the engine skid isn't flush, maybe not the almost 4" you're talking about, but it does appear to be lower hanging than the control arms.



Sorry I'm not much help but maybe someone else here has experience with these skids and can chime in.

I know my original intent wasn't to gripe, but now I need to. P&P has the worst customer service imaginable. I waited from June until January to get this pile of hot garbage from them. It came with wrong hardware, an engine skid that hangs lower than a factory Xterra, weld spatter everywhere, and a gas tank skid plate with a missing mount. Very sloppy work, basically useless and a waste of over $2k. Now they won't even return an email or answer questions about how to make any of this right. I hope to try to get money back through my credit card company but I have a feeling that taking them to court is the only path forward here. These guys are terrible. Buyer beware.

That's fine, I get it. I would tell them this personally if they gave me a phone number. More importantly I want people here to be aware of potential issues. Posts on other forums (including other vehicle types) reflect similar experiences as well, so I don't believe this is a one-off situation.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time if heard this story regarding them. Still, that sucks, and hopefully, they make it right.

Sorry, I only stated that they're still a member here because I'm hoping they would peak in here and respond, but I don't think that's going to happen. Apparently, supporting a race team is more important than supporting existing customers...
