I have been looking everywhere for a overhead consol like ARB makes but I can't find one for my 1st gen xterra. Has anyone elce come up wih one or found a suitable one from some other truck? I want somewhere to put more switches for lighting and other things like inverter and compressor. I also would like to shove a full sized cb up there.

I haven't seen a console but I did put my (rather small) cb up there. I just kind of ghetto rigged it though with some metal plates above the headliner. I should have had the foresight to run the wires above the headliner too but... Oh well, I'd fix it if I wasn't so lazy. What you might be able to do is put some buttons on the map lights housing, I can't really remember but I THINK there is some room there.

ARB makes one for the Navarra, which is basically the Frontier, but I believe it's 2nd gen only. It's very expensive, and trying to find one in the states is nearly impossible. Best bet is to make your own. I've tossed around the idea of making one for a while, but I don't really have the space to do it. I think it may happen soon, though.

I've thought hard about that one from 4wd Interiors (which I'm pretty sure is the same as the ARB; perhaps ARB bought the design) but the added cost of shipping it stateside has always held me back. You can find the ARB one for the FJ Cruiser at 4WheelParts. I've thought about modding one of those to fit our roof profile, but the effort to do that would be almost the same as making one from scratch.

And hey get the diesle models of our 4x4 trucks. I wish I could just go pick up a truck from there and bring it back. One thought I had was to make a foam structure and cover that with fiberglass then make a metal substructure that would bolt to the headliner and then the fiberglass console would bolt to that with big conectors so that if I have to pull it then all I have to do is unplug it and drop it out.
