Outdoor Grilling: What are you using?

Donovan Rankin

Test Drive
The time has come for me to finally be in the market again for a new grill. Had to get rid of the old one a year ago when I moved and no it's time to replace it.

I have been doing the pro/cons for gas vs. charcoal and . . well it never ends. Really looking at getting one of those combo ones (even if it means I have to wait a bit).

What are you all using?

I have a multi purpose grill, one side is gas the other is charcoal and the charcoal side has a smoker box. Grilling area is a bit small individually but usually only two of us so not a big deal for me.

Cleaned up the SSP today. It was looking rough!

And also fired the Bandera back up and got it hot to clean it and gave the outside a bath in vegetable oil to help protect it.

Well the big Jenn-Air that I got for free so-so many year's ago is having some issue's . Mainly the bracket's inside that hold the burner's in place have rusted away to nothing [ why did they not make these little piece's out of S.S. like the rest of the grill ??? ] And where you plug the end's in for gas flow has also worn down . I've replaced the burner's 3 time's since I've had it over 12+ year's so it owe's me nothing ! Probably make a decent little charcoal grill or smoker out of it with a little work if anyone would like to pick up the carcass .

We're going to downsize and stay with gas [ cough/cough] for convenience and ease of operation for her [ yes , I said her] Dose anyone have an experience with the weber spirt 2 E-310 ? as this is what we're eyeing up and the 10 year warranty kinda make's it a no brainer . And it's half the size of the old Jenn-air.

Tagged this to TerryD's post because who else on here has had more GRILL'S-SMOKER'S and Scottle's ??

I've never had a gas grill, so I'm really no help there.

I have the same grill, but the E-210 (2-burner version). I wish I had the E-310 because it'd be perfect. I can still get up to about 550+ or so and it can give me a good sear, but it takes just a little longer than I'd like. The extra surface area would be nice too. Quality is great and I'm at about two years of use.

I prefer a gas grill for the convenience too. I lucked out and got a sweet deal on the Weber Genesis II 310 a few years ago, as an end of season clearance from Lowe's. I think it was $350. It's very similar to the Spirit, just a few things that are a little nicer, and maybe a bit heavier duty. But a very similar grill as far as I can tell.

I love it. For years we always had cheap grills and I just kept replacing worn components until the whole thing was ready to fall apart. The Weber is so much better made and it's been great to use.

95% of the time we're just using half the space, cooking for my wife and I, but it is nice having more capacity when we have more guests to cook for. I would recommend the 3 burner size for that reason. And I would highly recommend a Weber based on my experience owning one.

For the money, I'd argue that Weber has the best all around backyard grill. You can do damn near anything on one..

Lookin tasty~
Without a doubt. And do damn near anything reasonably well. Not much compromise beyond space for the 22" kettles. If you can afford the Ranch, then it's just giving up the pizza oven stuff. But if you can afford the Ranch, an extra 22" for pizza isn't a problem.

Knocked the old ash sweep remnants out of the Roadside 22" today and did a short cleanup burn in. Gonna order some wooden handles and a new sweep for it and get to cooking!
