Welcome Oklahoma Xterra owners! Post up here and get to know people locally.

We'll set up M&G's (Meet and Greet's) on occasion and information will be posted up here.

What part of Oklahoma are you from?
Where do you go wheeling?

It's south of Altus just a little bit. I hadn't thought of it as much of an option until a coworker of mine said she'd seen jeeps out there. I couldn't find much about it online but what I did find made me realize my rig would not be prepared stock, unless there are some simpler trails not shown in the limited pics I could find.

went ahead and googled it... seems like it is only open for special events, but there is a phone number on the Redneck Yacht Club of Altus forum. Pics look like there are a diversity of trails from easy to super modded mud boggers and rock crawlers. Seems like it is worth checking out.

If that's the route everyone is going and there are no objections I don't see why not. How would people go about requesting the pw for the thread? You are talking about a pw protected thread right? Not a separate forum??

So Macland, have y'all considered a trip to the OHV park in Bridgeport, TX? It would be right at a 3 hour drive from Altus I think. I have yet to go, but it looks and sounds like a pretty cool place with a variety of trail levels.

I'd be up for that sometime. February or something like that would be after the holidays enough but in the middle of Becca's pregnancy so it'd be ok to travel. I'll have to run it by her but that's the timeframe that makes sense to me. Maybe January. What do you think?

Hello all, checking in from OKC, new to the X, has anyone tried out sundog trails in Purcell? I've been there with my wheelers, it has access to the river also. been to Little Sahara with my Bronco but looking forward to taking the X up there

Sounds to me like you're more experienced with places to go wheel in OK. I am originally from New Mexico and have only been in OK for a year and a half so I'm very unfamiliar. There's a place here outside of Altus called Coppermines Offroad Park. I haven't been out yet mainly for monetary reasons but also because I don't know anybody to show me around as I'm unfamiliar. Oh and I need sliders and skids since my rig is my DD as well.

Glad to have another X in the OK mix though. Post up some pics of those places if you've been :D

Howdy from Amarillo...yes, I know, I'm not in OK, but, ya'll are the closest to me, so, I'm gonna keep an eye here...besides, Macland's cool peeps, I'd wheel with him again anytime....(but I'll bring an important "extra" just in case) ;)

also, if ya'll get the urge to try to get a wheeling weekend trip up this way let me know and I'll try to work logistics and try to scout some trails, get a couple jeep friends with winches for "oh ****" recovery purposes, as well as just general fun....maybe pitch tents and a bon fire or something as long as it's allowed. (if ya'll let me know far enough in advance that I can work it into my budget I'll see about buying the texas OHV stickers for those that need them)

I hadn't even thought about needing TX OHV stickers over there. How much do those run?

It was discussed a little on the TNX OK thread about having a get together sometime this spring. If we do something in Lawton or Altus after April I'm good to go (gotta stay close to the hospital when the wifey is in the last month of pregnanacy.) If it's something before then I'm probably good to go further.

Derek, I figure you're probably not going to want to drive to OKC for anything but someday if we were able to get something put together here in Altus that wouldn't be terrible driving.

I'm beginning some recon work on the Altus Copper Mines to see if it'd be worth checking out. The Wildlife Refuge would also be a legitimate place to go. There wouldn't be much in the way of wheeling but it's a cool place to go see and we could all eat at Meers. Mike knows his way around out there and I'm sure him and Mandy would be able to show us some cool stuff.

sticker is $16 and is good until august of the year it's purchased in
so, if you buy the 2012 one, it's only good for half a year, which, I had a close scrape with a federal warden today who let me off with a warning, so, I'll be going to get mine tomorrow, but, yeah, you'll want one.

As far as a trip to OKC or Altus, either one's about the same really...the trip to OKC would be one I'd have to plan well in advance, because of fuel budgeting, Altus isn't THAT much closer to me than OKC though....only 100 miles closer...(which, is about 1/3rd of a tank?) The fuel isn't really the big problem, it's getting work to give me more than 2 days off in a row....

I hadn't thought about you being able to just follow I-40 on through. I go by dollars it's gonna take me to get somewhere so by my figures it costs $45 to get between Altus and Amarillo.

Sucks about the run in with the fuzz, luckily he let you off. I guess $16 isn't terrible to wheel at a place where it's free.

yeah, he let me off on 3 things, really a nice guy.....

#1: no seatbelt

#2: no OHV sticker

#3: speeding (the whole place is a 15mph speed zone, we all know it, but we only do it if we know there are park ranger types around, and well, I didn't spot him when I was up top checking around)

I'll get out tuesday and snap pics of some of the good crawling areas, but there are miles n miles of fun trails to run....

if there's any interest in going, ya'll let me know what kind of wheeling ya'll want and I'll get with a couple friends and map out some routes...

the fun part is, there's no real forced direction of travel on most any obstacles, and there are multiple routes up almost any thing you want to get up and over.

I have 2 good shops locally that I can get em from and mail em if needed, I know they can be a pain to get sometimes....as sand drags approaches here every place sells out fast....

I didn't even think about it having a 15mph speed limit. Well if we ever do a get together down at the river we already have a cost of going: $16, and the rules.

well, you'll have the $16 for the sticker anywhere in tx....and they all have rules....just don't get caught doing 55mph and you won't have to worry about the speed limit ;) they usually ignore anything under 25ish as long as there aren't tons of people out...

Time to start planning an early spring meet and greet... and maybe some wheeling. Between this site and TNX, we should have a hefty number of instate folks and potentially even draw some TX panhandlers in. Any date or idea suggestions?

I'd be down if time and money permits....

I've talked to mac a little bit on it too, there's a ranch up here that's opening up some of its property to have gatherings on, that we're supposed to go out this weekend and have a couple work days to get some trails cut in, and so on. The landowner is wanting to have it be a side source of income, so, I'm not entirely sure what they're planning on charging for any of that stuff but, I should have more info after the weekend. If ya'll would be interested, let me know, I'll probably set up a separate thread for it so I'm not cluttering ya'll's thread too, just thought I'd drop a little feeler note in for ya'll.
