There's an offroad park outside of Altus we may be able to do something at someday. It's going to take an exploratory run with more capable Xs than mine in tow to see what the park is like as a whole.

I say we shoot for a 10:30 meeting in the parking lot by the Old Plantation Restaurant on the main drive through town.

From the original post. And I believe we've got the entire big room at the restaurant to ourselves. If I can get the wife up and around early I hope to be out there early to check out everything a little bit.

It's a blessing in disguise that we're not wheeling, I still need to do my TRA's before I do anything serious. With my luck I wouldve ended up stranded 3 hours from home :zomg: haha

As some of ya'll know I am planning to camp on the reservation the night before but I just found out that you can't have alcohol so I was thinking that Lake Latonka would be the next best place. If you guys know of any good spots or any place else that's good let me know please. Can't wait to see the other rigs.

Would love to go, but have done too much traveling in the last couple of weeks. My wife almost killed me through the phone when I asked if I could stay in Burbank an extra day.

Yeah, all refuges have a no alcohol policy. Of course, if they can't see it, they don't know you have it (Red solo cup?), just saying. As for spots at Lawtonka... I've never camped there, but a couple of my friends do fairly regularly... I'll see if I can get ahold of them today for some info.

Good call. Happy wife. Happy life.

Oh and now I've got an idea of where Lawtonka is. Mt. Scott is an awesome vantage point.

Mike, is it faster to go through the refuge (from Altus) to get to Medicine Park or is there a better way?

Justin, if you take the refuge exit at Cache (Hwy 111) and cut across by the visitor's center and go past Mt. Scott, that is a lot faster than going through Lawton.

Ok. So going through Lawton isn't faster. Good to know. We usually get off on hwy 54 and go to hwy 49 and cut across the refuge. Your way looks way faster.

Also, the menu for the Old Plantation shows an 18% gratuity added for parties of 8 or more. Just a heads up that's nice to know.

The food seems reasonable. For people on a budget the sandwich section, which includes burgers, has free iced tea at lunch time and your sandwich comes with fries. Sounds like a good deal to me.

The rain finally stopped, so MississippiGal are about to take the Fronty out and see if the water washed out any of the roads I hoped to take everyone on tomorrow. The refuge is paved, but the Valley of the Wichitas is not, and a lot of the roads are just clay (not all-weather gravel). Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

This is Abe Lincoln mountain or something like that. See if you can spot him lying down, his missing his hat. I guess it fell off some years ago.
