Saturday October 15, 2022 we’re doing Long Run Rd from the north entrance down toward Bald Knob. This is a super easy trail where only 2wd is needed and airing down is just for comfort. Goal is to camp at that one epic site, with the backup plan of doing the western overlook on Lookout Mtn Rd. Will bring a weed whacker to help keep the site clear, because it appeared last time that it wasn’t being maintained while the southern end of Long Run is closed.

On the 16th, plan is to pack up and head out via Rough Run Rd (FR87). This was a trail very similar to Dunkle Hollow Rd to Flagpole. A few really pretty water crossings and some rocks, but manageable for any stock vehicle. We noticed part way through last time (on this trip) that there were no scary dropoffs and it may be a good spot for some winter wheeling that’s scenic and safe. This time I want to pay close attention to both that and whether any gates are still present.

Afterwards may turn back north or go south and loop back via Union Springs or Dunkle Hollow. I’m leaning toward coming straight back just to also scout the paved route to the entrance to make sure it’s all passable in winter also, because even paved roads around Flagpole in the winter can be pretty scary. End of Rough Run Rd is (38.6980832, -79.1588645).

Kids will be present camping, so please be family friendly. No drugs, politics, etc. Dogs are okay if you keep them on leash and clean up after them.

Will edit the post with meet times/locations as it gets closer.

Edit:
Meetup: noon Saturday at 7-11 at 325 S Main St, Timberville, VA 22853

Was that the same spot the fire is in? that the Other photo posted. with fine Throne really close. Dual Use. drop logs, burn logs. cook over logs. win win. ;-)

Really nice over look. To star Gaze & sipping a nice cold whiskey. Run Ham antenna up..

Good to control the High ground! .
