Hi all, I’m new to the nation. Purchased an 01 Xterra last summer with plans to do a build. Started with a few minor repairs and required maintenance. Did the timing belt, water pump, hoses, radiator, etc and then unfortunately blew a head gasket. I am now in the market for a good used or newer 3.3 . Mine had 146,000 and was looking forward to a lot of life. Didn’t happen. turns out they are difficult to find…at least in my area. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome from Atlanta!

I don't see many of the first gens for sale down here, given how much work you've already done, do you not think it's worth it to replace the head gasket?

I thought about that but not sure of the condition of the head…it got pretty hot. Also most that I’ve talked to say it’s pretty extensive job and about the same cost to swap the engine out. I’m not a great mechanic but I know I can do that part.

Ah ok, I thought you might have a shop given the amount of work so far. The swap would probably be the easiest route by far thanks to Nissan keeping that engine around for so long.
