So anybody have an idea why beach driving is prohibited in the summer months now? Hopefully I'm reading wrong but I'm seeing that beaches are only able to be driven on from Oct. 1 - April 30.

Driving on the sand in Nags Head and KDH has been summer banned for a long time. It's mainly due to the the high concentration of pedestrians on the beach during the summer. If you want to wheel sand in the summer you have to go down to Oregon Inlet or passed the OI bridge to Rodanthe and points south. You can also go up north through Carolla and go up to Carova Beach. NC12 just dumps onto the sand and you've got 14 miles of beach road and neighborhood all the way up to the VA line. That's the only place we go anymore.

No worries. Also, once you go south of Rodanthe, you need a county permit to be on the beach. If you go up to Carova you don't need anything but 4wd. Since technically the beach is NC12, a public road.
