Just saw this morning that black bear is open, if they can get imogene, we will be able to do what is imo one of the most awesome loops in all of off road :)

P.S Don't do black bear if you're unsure of yourself or scared of heights, I got 4 doors for more whores

Not to mention that he says the Xterra is a Pro4x when it is a first gen.

IMHO... not the brightest light bulbs in the box.
dude put pro 4x badges on it, which I mean he has basically made it what nissan sold as a pro 4x package on the 2nd gen

anyways, point is i'm gonna find videos of trails that I intend to take us over to give new comes an idea, also see what type of vehicles/build level are doing them, hopefully help make it easy?

Now I'm curious about the damage to the vehicle. Last I heard it had rolled over into the creek. EMS had responded with the new UTV that had been purchased.

Black bear is no joke. Too many inexperienced drivers feel the need for that kill sticker. I'm glad they're ok. It always seems to be in the same spot too.

There are two types of off-road drivers. Old drivers and Bold drivers. What you won't find are Old Bold drivers. ;)
I would love to do BB but I'm old and I have a healthy respect for something that I feel is beyond my capability.

I've done it 4 times Once when they had just reopened it after a snow storm had closed it for a few days. Those steps right where that picture is taken were completely wet, with rivulets running down them. That granite was slippery as ufck. I've never been so white knuckled in my life. It took well over an hour after finishing the trail for the adrenaline to subside...... I've no need to do it again.

Moreover, I will never understand how people roll right there. That's not the tippy section. Just go slow, one tire step at a time, first gear 4Lo, one hand on the e Brake, one hand on the wheel, one foot gas, one foot brake. Nice and easy.

On this I agree.

On fb group you always see dudes with bro dozer builds “ready for black bear pass” and you can just tell they’ve never done anything more serious than a fire road.

Like I got any room to talk, when I took the bronco over hells revenge I was less than impressed with myself, I’m out of practice

Hell's Revenge is not a hard trail. It's a mental trail. As long as you take your time and stay in the lines, you'll be fine.

so unfortunately, gonna be real honest, the x ain't gonna make it, even if I managed to get it to quit overheating, it needs cv shafts as I only just discovered sunday, don't have time off between now and then to fix it, and I won't pay a shop hundreds for that litlte job. it may be fine for what little were gonna do, but if it not, no point in being that guy. The ok ish news, is I'll just drive my bronco up there and wheel it.

First question. Who all is going?

2nd question, where are people sleeping? I snuck up on me that it's next weekend and I haven't booked any lodging.

Gonna be tough getting a room on short notice, suggest you get on it, if not tent camping is your best bet

Black Bear is like a Venus fly trap for 4wd. The actual pass from Red Mtn Pass is a cake walk as is the drop into the big cirque basin. Then the bottom drops out and people get a lesson in turning radius they’ll never forget ;). Have fun! Imogene is also beautiful. I’ve driven all of them too many times to remember as that is how we got between towns to go drinking! I think I spent about 8 summers between Silverton and Lake City. My favorite I think is Stony Pass but it is more of an overland camping adventure especially with detours to Beartown and Kite lake. Lovely area. Another cool and challenging set of trails are south of wolf creek pass that drop along the east San Juan River down to the west side of wolf creek pass. I remember a few interesting stream crossings out there. Have fun you guys. Totally jealous!!!
