Need Bigger Tires
This vehicle is my daily driver, but also want to build it up as a decent deeper-country camping machine, so something capable of taking forestry roads without too much problem. This build will be attempting to find a balance between the 2 of those uses.

Username: meisanerd

Make: Nissan
Year: 2015
Model: Xterra
Trim: Pro-4x
Color: Dark Grey
Code Name: Da Neuon

Mods:
Completed:
+ Stronger rear hatch struts
+ Locking wetbox handle
+ Larger rear wiper

In Progress:
+ Rogue key
+ Sliders
+ LED Headlights
+ Android Auto head unit

Planned:
+ Bilstein 6112 and rear leafs
+ 33" tires
+ Cargo divider

Would be nice:
+ Front aluminum or steel bumper
+ Winch
+ Onboard Air
+ Rear bumper with tire carrier
+ Bedline fenders and lower doors
+ Paint or wrap upper body

Haven't had the chance to do much to it yet. I'm probably gonna keep on with the plans I had for the yellow, so small lift, sliders, maybe bumpers if I can find the budget. I haven't even finished stealing all the good stuff off the yellow, it turned cold up here and I only have a large enough garage to (barely) fit one of them...

Alright, making progress on the head unit swap. Got a new one in, and most of the wiring. Plan is to leave all the factory stuffs in there so I don't have to cut wires, and where possible, use it. I've got the Rockford Fosgate unit with nav.

Thus far, it looks like I can keep and use everything except the factory mic and the sat radio antenna (nobody wants that anyway).

Here are the parts I've ordered:
- Head unit (https://www.autopumpkin.com/product...in-android-11-radio-with-navigation-bluetooth)
- Adapter for Android Auto (https://www.autopumpkin.com/products/android-auto-carplay-usb-dongle-for-pumpkin-android-car-stereo)
- Wiring harness (Metra 70-7552 and Metra 70-7553)
- GPS radio adapter (RG316 SMA Male to Fakra C Male)
- Antenna adapter (Metra 40-NI12)
- Aux In and Camera adapter (Axxess AX-NIS32SWC-6V)

Looks like the factory radio has a USB Mini-B port on it for the USB in the armrest, so Im gonna have to probably order a USB Mini-B female to USB A male cable. Also, contemplating hunting down whoever did that, and smacking them repeatedly with the USB standards book until they realize that A is for host side, and B is for device...

Factory mic requires power from what I could determine, and doesn't use a 3.5mm TRS connector for the audio, so I'm just gonna leave it disconnected and run the one that came with the head unit up the drivers A pillar.

I ordered 2 harnesses because Metra says the "2" is the one for the vehicle, but I was guessing that the "3" with the RCA jacks would actually be correct, given how stupid they seem to be about how the RF system amp works. I did steal 3 of the wires from the "2" for the steering wheel control so I don't have to cut anything on the vehicle side. Pumpkin says they natively support steering wheel controls (pin 6 to HU SW Key 1, pin 15 to HU SW ground, pin 16 to HU SW Key 2, http://forum.autopumpkin.com/viewtopic.php?t=12711), I haven't tested it yet but it lines up with what the FSM says. If you are running a more mainstream head unit, you probably need the Axxess adapter as well. The camera/aux cable says it comes pre-wired for the Axxess unit. You will also still have to source the 3 extra wires for the harness if you don't want to cut factory stuff.

If not replacing the Nav unit, it also sounds like you need a jumper for the steering wheel controls, it attaches to the bluetooth module. Nav has bluetooth built into the HU.

I've made it as far as wiring everything up, went to install, and it ain't gonna be easy to do solo. Also, its super hot in my garage, so I'm just gonna wait a bit until the wife gets home, and hopefully its cooled off some.

Alright, audio works, gps I think works, my wifi signal isnt good enough to be able to load up google maps or log into my account to download osmand to confirm, but it says it has signal, and set the time correctly. Steering wheel controls work without the Axxess, and are completely programmable, so I can set them to be whatever they want.

Confirmed I need the USB Mini-B female to A male adapter, looking like ebay or ali express is gonna have to be the source for that. Also waiting for the camera cable adapter to arrive.

Has a pop when I shut the vehicle off, I think its not shutting the amp off soon enough or something, gonna play with grounds to see if I can get that to go away.

Android Auto adapter had a garbage sd card so I can't install the app on the head unit, so wasn't able to test that.

Head unit bevel isn't quite wide enough so there are gaps on the side. The cover that came with it is too tall for the slot so it isn't usable as it, Im gonna have to figure something else out for that.

Once I get all the parts in, Ill do a good writeup with pictures.
