As in Xterra not wife.
Went to look at an '01 yesterday that is on FB marketplace for $850. 208K kilometres.
Owner says the Head gaskets and timing belt changed @147k KM.
It has some right rear fender rust, but don’t really care because I’m looking for a bush rig.
What I’m curious about is she says it has a error code for 2nd gear in the auto trans. Did these have transmission computers? I scanned it and found codes pertaining to EVAP and idle air motor.

Any way I offered $500 to low for the seller for the time being.

will see in a week.

The Consult can scan the transmission computer, a normal obd reader that is plebs have access to can't. Same with the srs and abs modules. If he's OK with 500, it would be worth the transmission overhaul.

Is the consult a Nissan scanner? Any thoughts what might be up with the tranny?
When I drove it one time it seemed to jump a gear.

Consult is the factory tool, yeah. The high end tools from Snap On, etc for pro shops can normally read the extra modules too with the right firmware. My guess without any other info is there's a sticking valve or solenoid somewhere, not applying the band for 2nd or unapplying for 3rd properly. Again, I can't really say without the code and without any other info.

Probably a good call. I think you're better off getting one that's in at least running condition. They're out there. I went through the same process as you. Almost bought one with a blown head gasket. I decided to save myself the trouble, and buy a running one instead. No regrets.
