Alright, another skid thread. Two things I don’t like with the Expedition One rad/engine skids, and one is a problem.
The radiator skid is designed to go under the engine skid. The holes in it are rectangular and large, so there’s no way to put them on top. So now there’s a slight lip to catch when going forward.
The second issue is what I believe to be a problem, but seeking opinions from the brain trust. The back of the engine skid, instead of two extra bends like Shrock has, just uses an elevated thick plate that’s almost an inch tall.
I can immediately imagine a scenario where I have to back up to try another line while going over rocks, and catching this giant shelf on a rock. It’s either going to hang me up or put a lot of shear force on the bolts.
My immediate thought was that I’d just switch back to the Shrockworks engine skid, but that has the little lip that folds upwards towards the front after the crossmember. Since the radiator skid goes under, I’d have to cut at least across the front of that bend at least wide enough for the rad skid. But then even in that case, the Shrock skids have the little barrel spacers between it and the crossmember, so I would also have to come up with a way to actually secure the rad skid, or else it will just be flopping around.
Anybody else have any ideas?
