Mass Flow air sensor question

Check engine light came on & took it to AutoZone for the free code reader. It came up MF air sensor, bought a new one, installed it the correct way, cleared the code & light went out. About a month or so later light came back on, went & had the code read again. MF air sensor again. I cleared the code again, this went on for awhile, back & forth... bought another new sensor, different brand name. Same bull shiat. What could be throwing the code? Anything else?

Think the air filter is a Fram & don’t remember the brand sensor (it’s been awhile. Would a dirty air filter throw the code or dirty air filter screw up the new sensor?

The rule on mass air sensors is buy Hitachi. They make the OE sensor. The parts store stuff is usually garbage. Now it should have a warranty, so they should change it out for free. But it's a hassle.

It might not help but a lot of folks have MAF issues with an oiled filter like a K&N. Could also be a leak in your intake tube boots between the air box and the throttle body.

Depending on what the actual code is.

I’ll stop & have the code read again today & post the printout they give me, & also ask if they have the Hitachi sensor

I asked my shop about a reoccuring code, and with their reader (one of those fancy shmanshy ones) they found a difference in voltage had been set. They cleared that out.... and well 3 months later the codes are back. In the past I had cleaned. changed air filter, bought a Hitachi, used contact cleaner on the connection ... said magic mechanic's words ;) even was going to offer my first born to the MAF gobbles, all to no avail. Beats me what the deal is.

Next time in the shop I'll have them look at it again and see if they can find something different. In the meantime.... clear the code on the fly with ScanGauge.

check the rubber boots on the air intake to make sure they haven't split. the one that attaches to the airbox and the one that attaches to the throttle body. sometimes they split on the bottom side so it's hard to see without taking them completely out. That would through a MAF related code since its getting more air than expected.

^^^ Very true. In my quest to solve the elusive P0101 error I replaced both of those couplings, jsut so I knew they weren't part of the problem.
