Picked up a Benchmade Griptillion last year and love the Axis lock but not a fan of how round and cheap it feels... really wish I would have picked up a bugout instead. Now I'm running a Spyderco Tenacious (half price of grip and has G10 scales) to see if its worth upgrading to the Manix

Came to a realization that I was neglecting one of my knives lately. Picked up my Kershaw Blur and brought it to home depo with me this am. Had to cut a couple sheets of vapour barefoot plastic and the knife Wasn’t as sharp as I thought it was. Need to break out the knife sharpening equipment This evening

I carry a CRKT Homefront. It was designed by Ken Onion with the field strip technology for breakdown and cleaning. The ONLY downside I have found to it is that it carries tip down because of the field strip.

The only time I’ve handled a homefront it had so much lateral blade play it turned me off to the whole consept of it

My camping/hiking knife is a Gerber StrongArm, it's definitely not a pocketknife but it's perfect for what I use it for. I've used it for everything from chopping down small trees to food prep on camping trips. Comes with a molle compatible mounting system which makes it really easy to carry.

I have two fixed blades I carry. The Benchmade Bushcrafter and a Mora Companion Carbon. I used the Mora around camp as a kitchen knife during the Colorado trip and really look a liking to it. I wouldn't want to try to use it to gather wood, but I think it will be a favorite around camp from now on. It's still hanging from my Raingler net in the X where I had it for easy access making sandwiches and what-not on the trip. I'm thinking of picking up a SS version of it to keep in the mess kit instead of the cheap kitchen knives I have in there now. I'm going to keep my eye out for one cheap at the flea markets for now.

I need to press my Bushcrafter in to service more as well.

No one is going to comment that this dude just came back from the dead to make a post about knives and was not heard from again?

The handle is actually common yellow brass. Thank my bad lighting/photography skills. And it's been forgotten in a toolbox for way too long... ;)
The hole on the end was exactly for a tie off cord so I wouldn't lose it.
The slot on the bolt is for a flat head screwdriver, so you can swap out the blades. Except I only ever made 1.
I lost the sheath I made for it. Maybe someday I'll make a new one, but probably not after getting used to a "real" one:

I've been using it as a project for trying to learn FreeCAD. So if you'd like to check out this file and see how I made the handle, the bolt that locks in the blade, and then fail 3 or 4 times to make a blade the right shape, then it's your lucky day! (BTW - thank you guys for letting zip file uploads work.)

The price for something similar has almost doubled and the wait time is up to six years now.

I'm a little bummed, I can't find my favorite. A close friend gave it to me a few years ago and I've carried it almost everyday since.

Anyway, here's a sample from the box.

That Gerber multi at the top right I've abused for about 15 years. It used to have nice little rubber grip pads on the sides. Haven't even cleaned up a few of the TSA orphans yet. I swear I had at least 3 CRKT's, guess they must have been adopted already.

For the guys who completely disassemble their knives to either kid them or to clean/sharpen/maintain them. What tool set do you use? Thinking about customizing a couple leatherman

For disassembly I use a cheap and basic "precision screwdriver" kit with 20-30 bits. Most used are the Allen and torx heads.

For sharpening I still use a basic 2-sided whetstone and leather strop I made.

My cleanup is sometimes a vinegar bath in bad cases, but usually just light sanding and polishing then some 3in1 oil.

That Gerber multi let's me snap in any standard jigsaw blade for the saw. What sort of customizing do you have in mind?

Thinking about getting a black oxide leatherman wave+ and swapping the tools with a normal wave. Basically making a reverse black and silver and a normal black and silver layout like the surge I just picked up. pretty much like this pick from FB I found

Since I used it the other day. For hunters out there, the outdoor edge swing blade is by far the best field dressing tool I’ve found. Far superior to gut hooks. I’ve had this one for probably 15 years or more.
