You can buy a cheap one for around 150$ at Academy Sports. They are not the best; but are good ones to learn with. I'd suggest taking lessons, renting, or going on kayak trips where the yaks are provided before you purchase one.

I really want a Wilderness Systems, Old Town, or Necky brand when I get around to buying one.

I've got a perception I use primarily for fly fishing. I have Yakima mako saddles that attach to the roof rack, but most times I just throw it up there on my surfboard pads and tie her down! I'll take some pics in the spring when it warms up...

I'm buying a kayak this week and I'm wondering if any of you that have them have roof lights too. I'm also going for the Yakima fold down kayak racks. Anyone have those?

Oooo kayaking! The weather was so nice out here that I finally got to take mine out and use it at a nearby reservoir. I have an Old Towne Otter. It is a very simple easy to use kayak for calm water. I'll post up some pics of it on my X and me using it later. :)

It's way cool. I always loved canoeing, but kayaking is on a whole other level of awesome. Whether it's fishing, touring, or hitting class I - whatever rapids, it is extremely fun.

If you live near an REI or a place that sells everything outdoors, see when they hold a kayak 101 class. I did and have been hooked ever since... even though I still rent or take event/trips with outdoor retail places.

How about a bump?

I'm about to buy a kayak here soon. Was wondering if you guys had any advice. Probably gonna go for a sit on top angler type kayak. I got most of that figured out and how to transport what little I will.

What about a paddle? What length do I need? Is that dependent on the width of the kayak?

I wasn't referring to the big stack originally but I did see those. How do you like em? I definitely want something that folds down.
The side stacker hoops are the way to go I think. They are usually less costly, but they allow you more room for additional kayaks, bikes, ect....and they fold down.

I used to put my RIDE135 on top of my X, but I got tired of doing that at 4:00 a.m.
So I built a trailer to hold both of my boats in the garage so I can just hook up the
Trailer and take off in the mornings.

I believe I finally have one lined up! Called about a kayak on Craigslist and it turned out to be someone I went to high school with! THIS bad boy right here!

From what I know about it, it seems pretty nice and should suit my needs. It'll be a good starter, for sure. Pretty stable from what I've read.

My new boat. Old Town Next canoe/yak hybrid. 13ft. I bought it Friday night and had it in the water Saturday morning. I love this thing, it's comfortable, stable, and it's light compared to my old kayak. If you are in Middle or East Tennessee and looking for a good boat, I recommend Caney Fork Outdoors in Silver Point, Tn.
