Let’s me start off simple, I’m Brett! I’m a master tech for toyota! I just purchased my first 2002 Nissan Xterra SE 4wd! Only had it about a week and am practically in love! First week of owning it has been a learning experience! Had check engine light for vent control valve and a knock sensor code! New charcoal canister(could literally poor the charcoal out of the old one!) and vent valve fixed the issue with that and now properly fill up the tank with proper venting! Knock sensor was a bear but got it done! New intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, timing belt, water pump and all those pesky coolant hoses replaced! Thing runs like a top!! Plans for this is a nice lift and big tires for overlanding and sweet camping rig! She needs love but I’m excited!

Welcome in! Knock sensor will probably be back in 6-12 months, just because of where it is. It doesn't set a light, and unless you have a SC, doesn't really effect anything. At least you replaced all the rubber right off the bat!

Thank for the warm welcomes fellas! Pretty excited for this build and can’t wait to get to know a bunch of you guys and learn along the way! I have a quick question! I’ve seen a bunch of negative things about calmini taking money from people but what about 4x4parts.com? Pretty reliable?

Welcome aboard !! I've been good with Nisstec , no complaint's here. Also I've used Rugged Rock's and Offroad Gorilla and although their shipping was slowwww I received everything I ordered . Sorry no experience with 4x4part's, if you look around the thread's there's some good companies to get your X armored up.

Brett, You will find that here on this forum, the implicit quota on master techs working for Toyoto converges on infinity. Welcome! Bring a friend! ;-) Love what you have accomplished so far.

Questions:

How many clicks on the X? Err how many miles on the X? Did you do an engine compression test prior to purchase?

Have to ask. The Toyota 4Runner is a fine light-truck sized SUV on frame 4X4 with a good reputation and used market values that attest to consumer satisfaction.

Why a 1st gen X?

Lol I’ve been working for toyota for 6 years now and love 4runners and Tacoma’s but the next best thing(with in a reasonable price range) was the xterra to me!! I picked up for 1400 from a guy that has owned it for 13 years and kinda neglected it honestly! Another reason going for Nissan was my first car was actually a 91’ Nissan hardbody and just really wanted to get back into a Nissan, not to mention I grew up with nothing but Nissans in my family since my dad works for Nissan North America here in middle tennessee as head of maintenance and engineering! My x has 354k miles right now and yes I also did a compression test! Everything was perfect!

My last build was a 98 Honda CR-V RT4wd with a 3 inch lift from HRG engineering on 31’s and lots of other goodies! It was fun but that little 4 cylinder didn’t like hills or the interstate at all lol! Never could get it stuck though!
