LOL, 10mm probably dozens... Where are they? In various Mercedes Benz around Orange County, California with a few wobble E10s as well...

What amazes me is you can be a tech for YEARS before you ever recover a single 10mm, and then its always Husky or Harbor Freight, not your Snapon/Matco.

Thanks all. Happy Monday, I ordered new headlights, LOL.

Build log? LOL

Does the paint falling off count as a mod?

My poor 2X baby is bone stock... for now. New headlights are step one... just cant redo the plastic again, and its dark out here in the desert. New feet are next, unless we get another stimulus check! C’mon COVID...

In fact my Baby’s greatest feature is in 226,758miles, Ive gone through two Cats, a pre-fuse block, and a starter. This truck defines reliability.

I solved the headlight problem by throwing in a couple Nineo II LEDs, work great, don't blind oncoming drivers once I aimed the correctly, and it was quick and cheap to do. Also, that counts as a non-factory mod, so gives you an excuse to start a build thread.

I have the same headlights and love them. World of difference.

How are you guys installing these? I got a set for my 05 X (S) but the fan at the back of the bulb is too big to fit inside the original locking ring. Without the LED assembly, the kit's adapter ring will seat into the reflector and the original collar locks it in place, but the LED assembly will not go far enough forward to snap into the kit's adapter ring - fan gets in the way. What am I missing?

I could make it fit by cutting the locking ring so the backside collar is about 1/2 original depth - is that what you guys did?

The light end will come apart so you can install the collar. Twist it counter clockwise and the “bulb” end will disconnect from white collar on the base with fan. Took some fiddling for me to figure out too.

After being in, the locking ring is kinda loose, I’d check them from time to time, as well as the wires in the connectors. A couple were loose and just needed to be pushed fully in to lock.

Thanks alot for the quick and detailed reply. However, I bought the Nineo II LEDs, which is what I thought you guys used but mine looks different than yours. The bulb unit with fan and the adapter are both all black.

The fan at the back end looks to be larger diameter - it is definitely too large to fit inside the back of the OEM locking ring.

C77EC840-3005-44AA-8B9F-D86739FD3F7C.jpeg You’re doing right, just in wrong order. The locking ring (1) goes over the light end (2) Instead of the fan end, before the collar with the large o-ring. (3) When its assembled the fan end will be outside the narrow end of the locking ring.

I have cheap knock off versions of your lights , but they assemble the same. Here are my parts numbered to match your parts.

602B9459-D729-4F80-970A-B7100328FB3B.jpegYou need to slide #1 the OEM locking ring over the light assembly #2 (not the fan end), with the larger end facing the light element itself.3DA3FD4B-8721-447A-9E57-918A0FC03423.jpeg42172107-8BB5-4A4E-A480-5593093315F7.jpeg

Then the collar with the larger o-ring slides on in the opposite direction from same end (like a top hat) and twists to the light element to lock. (Yours has he locking pin/ball bearing to click)AF12C56B-1AA9-40FA-9357-030869E0D7D9.jpeg32407DF8-9375-4A18-9B70-1E67AD92BC50.jpeg

Hope this helps, LEDs were a huge improvement for me.

LOL, youre not wasting my thread, dont worry about that. Dont cut anything yet, maybe someone with the same lights will chime in.

Youre just not seeing it yet. You’ll get it, dont get frustrated, The locking ring goes in front of the fan, not behind it. (I know it sounds completely wrong to you) The fan holds it from sliding back and the collar that clicks down over both, holing the locking ring between fan housing and the collar.

You bought a very good product, honest. Its a name brand and very popular. I’m the one with the cheap copy lights. Yours is for sure different than what I have, (ITS BETTER) it just works the same.

Comparing yours to what I bought, my fan is much larger diameter and will not fit inside the back of the locking ring. Guess I bought a different part than you guys - hope it lasts ok.

You have exactly what I bought. And there was no cutting involved. I think (It's been like a year since I installed) that they were a bit tight to get in there with the wire, but it all fits without modifying anything.

Here's mine. It definitely took a lot of wiggling, rotating, and trial and error to find the right way. It will essentially only sit on there right if it's exactly lined up the way they want. Like @SoNevXTruck said, there's an order and it still is really picky. It'll fit on there without cutting. I found it right as I was about to give up and put halogens back in. This is what mine looks like. PXL_20200928_163752428.png

Thanks to all, think I got it now. I'll take some pics later cuz it's raining now (rains daily in FL). My OEM locking ring looks much like ffxcores above except it's black and the tubular part in the back is twice as long - the tube part extends to the back of the little fins. So I cut 1/2 of it off, about exactly like above now except the little fins don't extend back cuz I cut them off too. Need to dress the connections with silicone grease and tie off the LED ballasts. Feeling a bit apprehensive that the headlights might start flickering and/or turn signals quit (CAN bus issues), but time will tell.
