Its not 4g. It just says 4g. Go back to the release a year ago. They state it.

I disagree. Because I didnt have it a year ago I only got it within the last few months. Plus I have noticed a difference in my downloads and load times being faster since the 4G started.

On a side note I already have FaceTime over the network as well and several of the other upgrades (attachment icon in emails, etc. ) that are suppose to be part of the ios6 update.

No AT&T made apple put 4g on the 4s. It's not 4gLTE it's not the same. My wife has a 4s and we have 4g here yes in my little town. But we have verizon so and it's not put that way on the 4s. I'm sure someone can dig the dirt on this if you really care, but yeah not the same.

This is more or less what it is.

Check this link out explaining it:

or
http://news.cnet.com/8301-30686_3-57408432-266/is-the-at-t-iphone-4s-a-4g-phone-or-not/

Sneaky marketing people in all carriers. All iPhones (at least through AT&T; I'm not up to speed on Verizon) prior to the iPhone 5 do not have 4g capabilities as the hardware isn't capable. Ergo, its not "4g" but its also not just 3g.

That's exactly what I'm saying. I was trying to say that yes I noticed a difference when it switched to saying 4g but I realize that it's not the new LTE but I don't feel I need the new iPhone 5. There is no part of it that screams impovment to me. I think the 5 is for anyone who got the 4 and skipped the 4s. Just my personal opinion.

Maybe but I guess lte is faster than my freaking wifi at home so that would be sweet. I like the idea of more stuff per page. I wish they'd let the phone run in landscape mode as well like they do with the iPad. I mean it's something little but It could do it I think. And also toss in the keyboard split thing that would be nice too. Those are little things I'd change but other than that I love my iPhone, it's cool to see they made it bigger and lighter it's not normally how it happens. But I'm not apart of the I need a giant screen demographic hell I work at home on a 13 MacBook. Pretty sure that will get upgraded before my phone does but I'll just have to wait and see.

I think I may be upgrading from the 4 to the 5. Just found out we have finished our 2 year commitment and eligible. Still on the fence about it though

Apple made the 4S show the 4G icon when connected to HSPA+ at ATT's begging request because they thought they were buying T-Mo, and that's what T-Mo had been calling 4G. All of the reviews I've read said it peaked out at about 6mbps, whereas LTE peaks at 50mbps....not really a safe comparison....

LTE can be fast than cable too ;)

yeah, according to verizon, they say expect 12-15mbps constant, with spikes up to 50mbps. for comparison, apple said when they were testing the new ipad out in cali, it was getting 20-28mbps constant and spiking around 58mbps...they were faster than we say we cap the tower speeds at....I like it!

I'm probably going to be joining the ranks of the iPhone owners pretty soon. Unfortunately it looks like our company will be switching to Verizon merely weeks before the 5s drops.

I have a 4 on Verizon and the network has been good for me... ready for any upgrade now and the one button is starting to get finicky. Waiting for an announcement.

I have that problem. I had to turn on "Assistive Touch" to use my home button. I still love my iPhone 4 on AT&T.

Loving my 5 on vzdubs...

That being said, if I had my way, I'd port iBooks to the Z10 and drop my iPhone5 like a rock.

I believe I'll be leaving the droid family and getting the iPhone 5. I've had droids for 4 years and have had nothing but problems.

YOU have BB phones because NOONE wants those. BB is right now trying to decide if they should sell off or start using WP OS

A. Read the topic, your WP8 tangent has nothing to do with iPhones.

B. if blackberry is "contemplating switching to windows phone" they may as well sell, since, again, nobody is buying windows phones, that's why we had to mark the 928 down to FREE to get them off the shelf.

C. Yes, WP8 has POTENTIAL to be a good system, provided its limited capabilities are exactly what you need, it's severe failure to attract developers, however, have it doomed to a slow, dismal, failure to launch. On other carriers it may have better sales, as well as globally, like blackberry, it may still enjoy decent sales, but, at least in my area, WP8 isn't even in the same league that iOS and Android are playing.

Exactly...not in the same league...people think there is only 1 way to go with a phone and it is lack of understanding of the options and an incredibly slanted and biased media and fanboy popularity that makes people think the iPhone does anything that other phones do not.

Not in the same league as in missing a few hundred thousand applications and such, a lot of features, and doesn't bring anything to the table that other phones can't do.

As it stands, WP8 is like taking your little cousin to the Minor league tryouts with you and you're almost guaranteed to win a spot, but your cousin couldn't even hit a single in little league. WP8 COULD be great, but, it isn't, any more than the new BB10 was a mind blowing game changer.

So, you mean it isn't the nearly a million apps, that're all tested and secure that make the iPhone do something that the other phones don't? Cause, I'm pretty sure that's what does it.

Does the iPhone have anything that the android, windows, and blackberry phones don't? Aside from better stability for the most part, not really.

Do the iPhones and androids have something that the WP8 and BB10 phones don't? Absolutely, this magical thing called developer support and backing.

Does the iPhone have anything that the android, windows, and blackberry phones don't?
Oops, forgot something...drastically lower return rates. That's what the iPhone has that the others don't. Tons of aftermarket support, that too.

Do androids have something iPhones don't? Some have obscenely huge battery life ratings...that'd be nice....

So, yes, there are other choices, but, b¡tching because people buy iPhones and it's widely regarded as the best smartphone, is like b¡tching because offroaders buy Jeeps...they have a long reputation and market backing as being the best at what they do, yes, others can do as well, but, most people don't care anymore, it's an aftermarket support and reputation thing.

Soooo apps and games. Nice resume.

Apps = additional functionality, so, yes, that is a pretty impressive résumé. Want to use your phone to tune your car? Android or iOS, done, there are apps for that. BB10 or WP8, go pay a shop to do it.

Want a good weather app? Pretty sure WP8 has "the weather channel" and it doesn't have radar either, you have to go to the actual site...

Apps make all of the difference in whether a phone is successful or not.

If you want a phone on which apps don't matter, buy a flip phone, or, absolutely anything else on the shelf.

Arguing that apps don't matter is like arguing that features on a vehicle don't matter...

When did they update it? Or, which phone, because I spent hours digging about a month ago on the 822 and 928 for something that had radar "in motion" for a guy...

Regardless, comparing, one weather app, whose accuracy depends on your opinion, vs over 5400 on iOS, probably close to the same on android ranging from severe weather warning, weather radio, radar, informative and detailed, to lightweight bare bones and pretty, the whole spectrum is there...

Stock camera doesn't cut it for you? That's fine, there are over 14,000 results for "camera" in the App Store.

In the end, WP8 is a software in its infancy, that doesn't get any love from very many people at all...which, honestly, is a shame, I **love** the way it works, it's simple, idiot proof, and, on the whole, took everything that apple did right with iOS and Microsoft put their own spin on it. The problem truly is getting developers to do anything with it. An app for iOS can easily be ported to android, which simultaneously ports to BB10, but, WP8 is much more work, requiring a complete rewrite.

Don't mistake my obvious disagreement that your WP8 phone can hang with iOS and Android as dislike of the system, or being a fanboy, I'm a very techy person, and spent a lot of time contemplating replacing my bb9550 with a 928, but, in the end, the WP8 phone can't do anything that my ancient blackberry can't, is as hard as an iPhone to manage media on (unlike android or blackberry) and, it simply doesn't draw me in, like other OS's can. For the people that like it, it's great, for everyone else.....not even a second glance.

The common opinion at the store on the 1020 was "awesome! 41MP camera! ****, it's a windows phone, if we get it, it'll be another high return rate phone"...

Just saying.

Now, back to iOS since that's what the thread is for...

I've had my iPhone 5 since right around release last year. Have been very pleased with it. It's simple to use and reliable, I couldn't ask for anymore out of a phone. I also had a 3GS for 3, yes 3 full years before that and it still works. It's pretty much an iPod touch now since I don't have phone service for it anymore.

If I were going to buy a new phone soon Id wait for 5s, I'm sure it will be out this fall.

I'm thinking about making the switch from Galaxy s3 to one of the newer iPhones.. Any difference between the 5, 5c, and 5s? K. Rice

Well, if I were spending, it'd be for the 5s. Aside from my rule of "never, ever, but previous generation electronics just because they're a little cheaper" it's as simple as this: 64-bit processor. The 5S has it, nothing else on the market does, so now, no matter what the android/apple/blackberry/windows phone people hype up about their stuff, it's as simple as that.

What's the big deal?

Unless you're doing VERY processor intensive stuff....NOTHING......yet. Once the OS, Apps, and the rest of the ecosystem catches up and is 64-bit optimized, then it'll be pretty significant.

That being said, if I recall correctly, from when apple made the switch from 32 to 64 bit hardware back in the day on computers, I'm pretty sure they claimed that the jump allowed for something obscene like 1.8 Billion times more processes per clock cycle or something like that.

I don't remember if that was marketing swagger, or what, but, I do remember that when one desktop/laptop system jumped to 64-bit, everyone else made the jump PDQ.

You can watch for the rest of the industry to start putting pencils to the drawing board to get their stuff together for a 64-bit launch ASAP too. Maybe this will spark some good old-fashioned competition and design. Apple snatched the break away interception, now, it's time for them to make the run home for the touchdown. I'm hoping the 5s is the start of that run, and that the software team is hot on their heels with a full implementation of 64-bit, and a software method of handling 32-bit apps as fast as possible also.
