intermittent power lose, weird

Well yesterday I was down in Terra Haute IN. and my truck started to act like it was out of air or gas or ? I was driving along and it sputtered for a lack of a better term. I pulled over and opened the hood and tried to rev the motor. No dice, it would start to rev and then no power. There was no misfiring and the motor ran great at idle.

So, I shut it off for about 10 to 15 sec. and started it. It ran prefect, I drove it the 60+ miles back to Indy with out a issue. Then on my way home it started doing it again. My foot was on the gas but no power. It seemed to go from the correct power to no power to correct power to no power. So as I'm rolling down the road at 60+ MPH I kick it in "N" and shut it down and restart and guess what it went away. Weird

I haven't had time to read the computer yet. I have the truck at 4x4 parts for an alignment today. Tonight I will try to read the computer to see if it say's anything. I was wondering if any of you have had a problem close to this. My first thought is fuel filter and if that's not it, a fuel pump.

I just put a new cap, rotor wires plugs on a couple of months ago. What would go wrong with the distributor to make it do this? Low spark? ECM?

The crank position sensor in the distributor itself. There's a bearing in it that if it goes out can cause the engine to not know where it is. Pull your cap and check if the rotor has ANY movement side to side (not rotational).

Thats what it acts like. Like it forgot were the gas peddle is at. I will check it out tonight. I assume I'm looking for Zero play side to side. Is this bearing easy to replace?

Eh, kinda. There's a write up here somewhere. Replacing the distributor as a whole is problematic; there's a casing number that needs to be matched to get the right replacement.

Note to self, When modifying your air box do NOT snap off your MAF sensor. This makes the truck run very poorly. So, $102 later for a new MAF and this back to running great!

Thank baby, kid, young, middle aged and old Jesus that it wasn't my dizzy.

That will do it for you, also for anyone reading this thread later on a hole in the flex portion of the intake will give the same issue. While it always seems to be on the bottom of the tube and usually when you are on a steep incline it is one of those problems that you can not see from the top and is just a normal wear item over time, really nothing that you can do to prevent it from happening.
