That's crazy that they're that soft at those pressures. I only run 33-35psi in my 285s and they're plenty stable. One of the tire shops around Lewisburg had a bunch of tires in the same size the to compare relative sizing. The X3s are among the tallest and I liked the look of the tread. More tread void than I want in a street tire though. That may be why they feel so loose?

Was just thinking that. I run my 315 Cooper STT Pros at 30lbs and they feel great. That's insane that a tire run at 42lbs would feel like rollover material.

So today, Maxterra, Baby Fronty (who you all haven't met yet), and an ex X'er Josh, did a huge fridge ventilation mod on "The Mistress" which is our Offroad VMI trailer (whom you also haven't met yet) I'll copy the build page at some point and post it here. Here's to hoping the new additions let the Fridge do what it was intended to do. First world problems of a custom built Tear Drop (that's not really a Tear Drop) on steroids.. lol

All done in prep for the week of wheeling / camping in Ouray next week.

The General Grabber X3's are not for me. On road handling is garbage, feels like I'm driving on 15 psi all the time. Freeway speed, they wander all over, and it feels like if I had to make an evasive maneuver I'd roll it. Steering is like I'm driving a marshmallow..... And all this at 42 PSI.

Had Discount order the Duratracs, and I'll have them on before Ouray next weekend. Only paying to have the mounting done, and the cost difference in tires.

That's what I get for trying something new I guess..... They're probably awesome offroad.

Definitely lame, I love how the X3's look but I know that wandering tire feeling all too well...it's exhausting to drive after about 30 minutes. I take it the Duratracs handle pretty well on-road then?

So... After all that. I actually decided to keep them. I really can't explain why either. To answer, yes I liked the Duratracs on road. I like them better on road than the X3's for sure. The X3's are already about as noisy as the Duratracs were when they were nearly worn out. The off road part, well, the X3's are pretty damn great. I haven't noticed much in the way of MPG loss, maybe a tad.

I just needed a change, and after having driven 1000 miles towing the trailer, 300 or so miles off road, and crawling, and another 700 plus miles regular, I've gotten used to them.

It could be that my Duratracs were so worn, that anything with a full tread would have felt wobbly, I just don't know.

All that being said, will I buy 'em again? ... probably not.... would I buy the Duratracs again, absolutely.

P.s. thanks for posting in here @General_Tarfun, and @Me!Here! , it reminded me to actually post up about this..... and eat some crow.

That’s the last thing I expected to read regarding your newish tires lol! We’ll see how you feel when they wear down a bit more. I have a buddy that ran duratracs on a ‘93 Pathy with 3” BL and the standard suspension upgrades....he hated them. Tires are like your favourite beer, everyones’ is different.

I can relate to that. I have a difficult time buying the same tire twice in a row because even if I've had an overall good experience with them I can't shake that feeling of maybe there's something better out there.

I’m still thinking the aggressive tread Design, being brand new had minimal road contact until they wore in a bit.
Much like a new knobby motorcycle tire, side by side or ATV tire on asphalt the first time.

Feels like you’re on ice or oil for the first bit. Once the tread wears a bit and it’s planted, feels much better

I’m liking the look of them and seriously considering them for the Fronty build.

In other news.....

My front diff input shaft seal has sprung a leak, and the drive home from Southern Utah was SMELLY AF! Knowing that the front diff ate a tooth in the distant past, I'm not going to rebuild it. I'm going to build the M205 in my garage. Just ordered the install kit and the 4.10's from Steve Lutz. Had a conversation with him about the TRE E Locker..... seems that nobody in the bigger industry has ever really heard about TRE, and they are all wondering how this company popped up over night, and has product for a gazillion different applications.

Anyway... he's looking into things a bit further for me....

Stay tuned.

After a 10 week epically stupid game of excuses, a failed regear by a shop that didn't do a single thing correctly that ended up ruining the gears and pinion bearing in 200 miles, I never paid them a penny, and I got them to buy new parts ($650 cash).... the story finally has a happy ending. Jonathan Jonas correctly rebuilt my diff, it's in, and I have a real rig again.

This story has so many delays and excuses by the owner of the shop, that I just don't feel like repeating it all....
