Went on a BB gun kick over the weekend which escalated to a pellet gun kick, then almost turned into a really expensive air gun kick before $$ reality crept in... (did you KNOW that you can get .45 cal AIR GUNS? That is insane!! You can also get $1400 air guns - not sure which is MORE insane.)

I DID go ahead and get a cheap, instant gratification Beeman for pistol practice, and I should have a Gamo Bone Collector (in the .177 flavor) here by Wednesday. Then I made a spanky shooting gallery back behind the barn to see how accurate the cheap air pistol is.

I wanted cheap practice plinkers.... and found a good deal on the Gamo. Need to get some sort of rifle skills back before I start on my quest for the Ruger No. 1 that I want. And if I can get some sort of decent group with the cheap*** Beeman, then the .38 s/be easy.

Plus we got an SR9 the other day, plus I ordered a couple of speed loaders for the .38...

Who knew Amazon.com had so much guns & farkles?

Plus I have a range bag on the way... and target holders.

Plus girls shoot for free (and I can get Chas in for half price) on two different nights each week at the two ranges closest to us.

See, knowing all those treasures are on their way is a good way to start the week!! ;)

I cry foul!!! :p Then again I just walk out behind the race shop to our range to shoot so......:excitement:

Never really though about an air rifle as a trainer....need to look into that. Thanks for the idea Tam. ;)

They even make air pistols replicas of most popular guns, Beretta, Block ect... They have real action slides and everything.

I want a good air rifle with scope to fix my squirrel problem. :)

Kelly - yeah, I hadn't looked at BB or air guns in years. There's some amazing stuff out there now. People hunt RABBITS w/ them, and sqwerls all the time - the fps on the rifle I have coming is at least 900fps, supposedly more if you use the right kind of high-end pellets. The .45 cal that's available has some pretty wicked knock-down force. It dawned on me to go that route for not just the "cheap practice" price, but also how quiet they are. The air rifle I have coming has a built in silencer even. It also has pretty nice fiber optic adjustable sights, plus comes with a reasonably decent scope, especially for the price. I looked at one of their other models at a gun shop on Saturday - nice feel & balance. They're long, about 46", so they need a longer rifle bag, tho. Supposedly you can nail really tight groups with them at some pretty stupid distances - but I'm not making any claims as to what _I_ might be able to do. :p

And tommyboy - look at the Gamos for sure. In fact, if you go to "AirGunDepot" online - they have some in-depth reviews on the Gamo rifles, including what's good for varmint hunting. Pyramid Air was another good site, altho I ended up getting mine on Amazon, cause the price was a ton better. This "bone collector" model I'm getting comes in a .22 cal, too - yet another thing I didn't know 'til I started looking at these things. .22 cal pellets aren't going to be any screaming deal price-wise, but if you have a sqwerl problem, as long as you can hit what you aim at, I imagine it should clear it up all right for ya.

As for the replicas - for sure. I wanted to get a 1911 replica, but I settled for the cheap pistol for now, and mail ordered the rifle. I may still end up getting the 1911, tho. Even the pistol I got has the right heft for practice, in fact I think it may be heavier than the SR9.

I know that some of the air rifles are firing up to 1200+ fps.. I shot the Bone Collector.. you will be happy. Well placed shots can bring down small/medium game. I shot a Groundhog (house/erosion problem) with it, with a gold plated round, followed by a lead pellet (lead poisoning). I loved it, and I hope you do the same.

Good to know, Roadwarrior! It should be here today if I don't miss the UPS guy...

My new Gamo Bone Collector got here last night. Played w/ sighting it in today - but haven't mounted the scope yet b/cause the fiber optic sights are freaking awesome, as long as there's enough sunlight to "light" them. It's my first time using that type of sight - I like 'em! I wanted to get a feel for it w/ open sights first, too, before I complicate things w/ a scope.

I had to triple up the layers of my wood wall backstop, tho' cause, um, that thing has some penetration power at closer-in sighting range. You don't want to shoot a group in the same spot more than once - the sucker blasts some pretty good holes open when you hit the same spot more than once. This thing is going to rock for rifle practice!!

Think I've already found a pellet it seems to like, too. My biggest worry was that it would be an SOB to cock, but it's not bad at all.

Air rifle. Little did I know how much air rifles have grown up since I had them when I was a kid.... people actually use these things for HOG hunting and whatnot!

The gun shop across the way from work has one that shoots about 1500 fps. And its more than an AR-15 wow..... But 1500 FPS and it breaks in the middle to cock it.
