Made first due engine at a fully involved 2 story barn on friday night. 1 RV, 3 vehicles, and a mower inside. Biggest fire ive ever seen besides the art museum fire this summer. Then that saturday morning after, I was toned out while at a hands on vehicle extrication class in my mutual aid department (south of my district) to assist the department (north) of mine at a double wide trailer on fire. Made second due (because we were out of district mutual aiding) First in engine had run out of water an didn't catch a hydrant due to being way out in the country so we pumped our 1000 gallon tank into the first engine with 2 attack lines off it. Saved some of the structure but with it being a trailer water an smoke damage were heavy. First time going interior, wasn't much fire left when I went in but it still was an experience of a life time. I would post a picture from a response video I have but with both of them being a personal residential building I don't want to.

Not something you see everyday or a "good" thing to see.

Scott 2.2 packs with 30 minute bottles. I don't mind the packs but the masks absolutely suck. They are hard to seal at the beginning and super hard to get a good seal once you're sweaty.

That wasn't from a training prop either lol it was from going in the front door of the trailer. It started to roll over and flash while we were at the door.

you'll learn trailers aren't worth it unless there is a victom 90% of the time its already about to flash or crumble. you guys got some old shat lol

Yeah but we are a volunteer department covering only 35 miles and majority of it is farm use. So you figure each residence has multiple acres. So our income is low.

There are what we use.

works for me lol
Ditto

So do you actually do urban/structural fire fighting or is it just wild land?

Something neat I found out. Yall call tankers the helicopters that carry tanks right? Technically we have water-tenders but we all call them tankers. A 4900 international truck that carries just 1800 gallons of water and a small compartment pump.

no water tenders are water tenders, we call tankers like the DC10 in that video and big drop plans, we call copters copters (insert number) depending on where they come from, i go up the hill in the summer to work wildland (schedule B) then during the winter i come back down to the valley and do schedule a( what you call urban/structure)

Ah gotcha makes since. Someone corrected me the other day when I said tanker referring to our water truck and said if we have a massive brush fire and call for a tanker ill get a helicopter lol. But ya our wildland around here consist of a few acres on fire with hay bails lol. Mostly structure fires, wrecks, and medical assists.

AZ I found a kentucky style "big" brush fire for you. I wasn't on the a fire department last summer but we had this brush fire in the closest part of my departments district to the city. For us, it was the biggest brush fire in bowling greens history. We had all 9 county departments there at one point and released some to return to district and requested cities closest tower truck which is less than half a mile from this scene and my districts beginning. I cant remember how many acres it was but it claimed 1 abandon structure as well.
You can see the Ford F-series brush trucks we use.

what was that 20acres? pretty cool that's the largest. but i could probably mobile that myself in about 20mins lol. but that is out cup of tea over here. at least during the summer. you'd never see those type 1's at a veg fire here.

Ya around that, it burned for a day or two.
Busy night, just got home from another structure fire. Extremely unusual for the county. Well have maybe 15 in the county a year spread between 9 departments. In my district alone we've had 11 since 1/1/13.
Structure fires are 3 department knock outs in the county. All 9 worked a house fire today and city got a room and contents fire with a great knock down. Weird day for sure

that fire burnt for 2 days? holy shat lol we'd be in some serious trouble if we let that thing burn for two days. got any good live fire yet? get to the point where the fire is so low you can't see? lol

talking about structural wise me seeing live fire? If so oh ya, Ive made first due engine/truck because they have all been in my district except 2. We have had some good(not really a good thing but in fire sense it wasnt small) working house fires. Ive got quite a few pictures but with it being homes I dont want to post them, where as government land fires are easier to post cause its not actually someones home or property. But ya we have had lots of working fires that ive made first due to and I was either OVM, nozzle man, backup man, on the initial attack. Assignments vary in the Volly world.

ya i mean interior attack, actually fighting good fire. even though i work wildland all summer and go back to the county during the winter, i love structures and we literally fight to who gets the nozzle and gets to crawl around making interior attack. if your first to it you get it, just never drop it or its gone forever!!!

Haha that's the same way it is for us. Granted we may only have 3 on the first due engine but if you set the nozzle down to rehab you might as well join vent, RIT, or S&O ops cause you aren't going back to the line lol. But um I've only made interior on 1 fire so far because I just completed my last training I have to have to go interior.

Needless to say it wasn't really interior. It was a single wide mobile home and when me and my roommate forced the door then grab the line it was rolling over bad and out the door. That's the pic of the air mask I posted he was wearing. But after the initial knock down was made we did go inside but there wasn't much left to fight. It was a super and I mean driving 15 in a 45 kinda foggy night so none of the smoke would leave. So I'm waiting for one where I actually get to go in for a good bit and fight.

Absolutely love it and I'm in the process of applying for a career job right now!
Stay safe brothers! And sisters :)
