Ok here are a few things I have done to my x and some people are askign what type of switches and what the wiring was like( this is my first how to that I am writting, if there is more info or something dosen't seem right let me know) also throwing out some credit to NutsgoWee(TNX) for helping me figuring this whole thing out

OR light switch:

I ended up using this switch from OTRATTW :
http://www.otrattw.com/proddetail.php?prod=V2D2U66B-00000-000

it is a SPST Momentary switch

and here is the wire to pin lay out that worked with this switch

2- RED
3- BLACK
7- BROWN
8- PURPLE
9- BLACK
10 - WHITE/RED

***People are having issues with this Mod. please procede with Caution, for some odd reason, the wire to pin placemtn dosen;t work ( second person asking for help over on the other forum)*** I am working on figuring this out

The diff lock switch is a bit more complicated. the Stock switch is a DPDT on/on. now come the tricky part, if you have performed the diff lock any time mod, you can use a simple SPST on/off switch like I have. here is the process and pin lay out for the SPST switch:
the locker has 5 wires going to the swithc. 2 for Ilumination, 2 for function of the locker itself and 1 power from ignition
here is the switch that I used
J66.png

here is what I have wired up to that switch, IIRC

Pin 2 Yellow wire
Pin 3 White/ green
Pin 6 Red
Pin 7 Brown
Pin 8 blank ( No wire)

NOTE: Pin 8 has no wire because I am utilising the diff lock light in the dash and didn't need both lights on at the same time.

end result :

The VDC how to is a direct copy and paste from Truffle's post on TNX. all credits should go to him and NutsgoWee, I am just making available to XN

Now before you all going thanking me for doing this, most all of the credit belongs to Nutsgowee.

He gave me this
Alright so if it's momentary it must be the "v2" which tells you the type of circuit inside the switch:
v2_zps1ddc95f8.jpg

The 5th digit, the "u" in your case, tells you how the wiring for the lighting is inside:
u_zpsf1501050.jpg

And the "66" tells you that your lights are incandescent so polarity doesn't matter.

This is from the 2007 manual but should be the same for 2008:
vdc-1_zpsa4db0c3d.jpg

So the RED and BROWN wires are the illumination. There will be two other wires, they go back to the computer and control the VDC.
Pin 10 - RED (if you want the lower light on)
Pin 9 - BROWN (if you want the lower light on)
Pin 8 - RED
Pin 7 - BROWN
Pin 2 - One of the other wires
Pin 3 - The last wire

If you don't have Brown and Red going to the switch, use a multimeter to test which wires give you 12V (with the dimmer turned to max and illumination on).

So easyist way to do this, is the way i did and the good part about all of this is, that it you dont need to cut up the factory plug in.

Tools needed
1x A good crimper
1x Wire stripper
Wire-I choose to use 14gauge wire on all my switches and for just this switch you wont need much about 5-6 inches per tab and its a 6 tab switch maximum and Im guest-mating as i didn't measure.
6x female connects
4x wire taps

The switch Id call Jim and just say " you want the momentary switch with the vdc artwork for xterras on it
List of switches available on digikey and mouser (for price-check) that will work for this mod:
V2D1S00B-00000-000 (mouser)- SPST momentary with no illumination
V2D1160B-00000-000 (mouser)- SPST momentary with 1 incandescent upper light (independently wired)
V2D2GHNB-AAC00-000 (mouser)- SPST momentary with green upper LED and amber lower LED. The lower LED is only on when the switch is being pressed. No, there is no way to wire it so the lower light comes on when the VDC is disabled without serious work so don't ask. Also the LEDs share a ground pin so they cannot be connected to the dimmer.
V2D1B60B-00000-000 (mouser) - SPST momentary with upper incandescent that only comes on when the switch is being pressed.

If you really need a certain color to match the rest of your switches you can follow my LED swap how-to here (posts 1 and 8)
http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=56098

Most of these steps i dont have photos for as there are millions of threads showing the exact same thing.

Step 1- pop top plate over the radio off- best way to do this is a small screw driver and gently pry.

2- Take screw out of the top and gently pry back and the face will pop off.
3- unplug all existing connecters that are behind the face.
4- were the cup holders are grab both sides and pull up it should come right up
5- pull forward on the shift consul piece and then pull back and carefully remove it from the shift lever.
6- remove the two screws holding the switch panel peice on and gentley pull and it should shift back enough to begin.

Now where it gets fun

7- disconnect the battery

8-Unplug the existing switch plug thats in the back of the switch and pull away.

9- go to the switch and get it set up before going back to the connector depending on what you have you can jumper certain plugs. I was able to jumper
Pin 10 - RED (if you want the lower light on)
Pin 9 - BROWN (if you want the lower light on)
Pin 8 - RED
Pin 7 - BROWN
Now if you have different colored wires you'll need to use a multimeter or a power probe to determine the ground and the source of power.

the rest
Pin 2 - One of the other wires
Pin 3 - The last wire

Now i would label each female end that goes into the taps so you don't get confused.

the rest

10-now tap all wires on the connecter like this

(photo unrecoverable -mod)
http://s785.photobucket.com/user/treffley/media/How to vdc/IMG_1186_zpsdda1ec0e.jpg.html
11- plug them in and your done with the switch

12- before you plug everything back up you'll need to hook up the battery and get your truck to a straight road. This is because unplugging the battery can cause the vdc and slip light to come on. Once on the road, ( a straight road) set the steering wheel perfectly straight and shut the truck off. Turn it back on and drive straight for about 100ft. In doing this your resetting the steering indicator.

13- test the switch

14- clean up and your done

The hill descent controle switch is pretty simple to swap. I used a SPST on/off switch
there are 4 wires:
Black: Ground
Yellow: ABS Actuator
Red: dash light
Brown: Dash light
Using this switch:
http://www.otrattw.com/proddetail.php?prod=V1D1B60B-00000-000[/URL]

here is the wire to pin placement
Pin 2: Yellow
Pin 3: Black
Pin 6: Red or Brown
Pin 7 Red or brown
will post a couple pics of my completed switch install once Ihave the switch cover ( forgot it at work )

I've got a question pertaining to the VDC switch.

I want to use Contura V (C-V for future mentioning) switches to swap out all of the stock switches. For the VDC writeup you quoted, it appears that Truffles is using a C-V switch, which is a 5 pin, SPST switch (he mentioned Jim, who I thought works/owns OTRATTW). The pins are 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 while the pins he says he used are 2, 3, 7-10, which doesn't exactly make sense if he did use a C-V.

I guess what I'm not clear on is if there is something I'm not seeing? Is it possible to use the C-V switch offered by OTRATTW? I know you're not Truffles, but maybe you, or someone with electrical knowledge, can shed some light on this. Also, what was the difference in using the red or brown wires? I'd like to assume pos/neg, but I'd rather be sure.

I'm a mechanical guy so the concept of the zap-zaps throws me for a loop. I'll probably have more questions as I make my way through the conversion, which is still a little ways out.

C-V pin diagram for those of you who missed it:

Red is for the low light and there brown is for the upper light. The brown is used when the VDC is set of of . As for a ground I am not sure cause I am not using any of the iluminatuion lights with my switch

Thanks for the help thus far.

Assuming lower independent, dual LED switches (this is for the rest of them), grounding pin 8 (and jumping 7) will allow the use of both lights? The jumping back and forth from OTRATTW's site and Xterra sites are somewhat conflicting. Using OTRATTW's diagram and my mechanical oriented thinking would make me think that the brown wire is redundant or the ground. Refer to the link below.

The link below looks to be for a SPST on/off switch. Also. You still have the light in the dash that turns on when you cycle trough turning the VDC on and off. Making that top light a redundant light as well

Sorry for going to email . Had to step out for a bit. WRT your jumping on 7 and 8 question. You will be able to do it for your cb switch.

Pin 8 to pin 7, then pin 7 to ground.
Pin 2 to fuse block
Pin 3 to red CB witre
Pin 6 would come from a spliced in lower dimmed illumination switch.

If your using a switch that had LED vs incandescent lights I am not sure if the dimmer will work

As for the hill descent and diff locker it should be as explained in the email and the OP here
