How To - Install Delrin Lca Bushings

Not one of the more typical mods, but the stock bushings give up pretty quickly, especially with 35's. There is quite a bit of movement with the stock bushings. I ordered these from PRG. I was a little worried at first, because the sleeve was very loose in the bushings out of the box, but once installed in the LCA's, the fit is very snug. This is what i did:

The stock bushings are a pain to remove. With this process, i think i did each arm in less than 2 hours. Get a 1 1/2" diameter hole saw, but get the longer one, this one is 1 3/4" deep. Drill out the rubber, it's going to be work on your drill, a corded or air drill would be best, or have a few batteries on hand. Each arm went thru 2 fully charged batteries. The drill and rubber gets hot, expect to have burning hot little balls of melted rubber thrown at your face. Wear goggles and gloves, trust me.

Now that the center is out, you need to saw thru the outer metal sleeve(but not the UCA!) Carefully cut this out With a hand saw. You can use a sawzall if you have mad sawzall skills.

Now use a hammer and chisel, etc, and knock in the edge of the bushing so you can get it out. If you cut thru the bushing this should go fairly easyish.

Now assemble with lots of copper anti-seize, I was not able to push them in with just my hands, i knocked them in with a block of wood, I am very happy with the fitment, I wouldn't want them any looser.

Now rinse and repeat 3 more times and you're done! I'll report back once I actually install them, but I expect less slop for sure

I've been waiting for someone to do one of these, nice job!

I looked at doing this last time I put LCA's in but without having a garage/shop I settled for just using the Delrin washers on them. Looking forward to how you like the full bushing, I'd guess there will probably be a lot more road surface feedback felt through the frame but also your alignment will probably hold forever.

Alignment? Whats that? We will see, would like to get them installed this week. How did the washers do? I used them on BMW's with lowered supspension in the past with great results, but the tires were half as tall, so

Performance-wise they've been great, I put them in at the same time as a set of new OE LCA's about 10,000 miles ago and they really firmed up the bushing connections. The alignment hasn't shifted at all with them which was what I was really after. The only downside is they need to be greased or they get really noisy.

Tip for future readers, do not use antiseize on the outside of the bushings. Antiseize has abrasives in it. It is for fasteners only.

Use a good quality synthetic grease, such as the Green Grease most parts houses sell for the outside of the bushings and the bushing sleeves.

You can use antiseize on the outside of the bolts to prevent them from sticking in the sleeves though.
