My Diode Dynamics C1R+Brake hitch mount LED light finally arrived today. It fits right into a 2” hitch receiver and promises easy installation in minutes for any vehicle with a 7-pin wiring harness. That is not true at all for the 2nd Gen Xterra. It requires you to do a custom wiring job if you have the factory harness.

Disclaimer: The wiring I describe below is specific to the harness I received with my kit, and specific to my 2015 S. I am not responsible for any modification to do to your truck and you should absolutely verify the wiring for yourself before doing anything.

First, here is the finished product. It sits perfectly flush in the Maxterra hitch, and features a running light, brake light, and reverse light.

Their instructions for wiring seem to be for the regular one without the brake light, because they just list four wires when there are actually six. Instead of following that, I decided to just cut the male and female ends off their harness and splice it in line with my harness like so:

Here’s the part where the disclaimer comes in. This is the Nissan wire color to DD harness color and what pin it corresponds to:

Yellow White1
WhiteBlack2
RedBrown (patch only)3
GreenYellow4
BlueGreen5
BrownBlue6
BlackRed7

That’s all there is to it. Here is the wiring when complete and all cleaned up and a view into the back of the hitch.

Here also is a detailed view of the wire colors as they go into this plug, with the white ground being on the bottom when actually plugged in. You can use this to compare to yours if necessary. 8DC7528B-1668-450A-BB4F-167EA59A507C.jpeg

And the pin numbering when looking at the DD harness:

What holds it in, locking hitch pin?
It has built in plastic tabs that pop in to the holes, or you can cut them out and use a locking pin like I did.
