How to get colder air in airbox?

I have a Volant CAI thats sealed up and has snorkel extension to a forced air inlet application out side quarter panel. Here in the summer time especially, I have noticed when I pop the hood, the air box that houses the filtered inlet is extremely hot. Even with forced air filling the air box, it is really hot to touch. My logic tells me the engine is getting hot air as opposed to the more desired cold air that a cold air intake or turbo/nos application in a car would get. Not sure if I would gain anything via HP or Gas Mileage with colder air, but I am wondering if there is a way to cool that temperature in that box more. I mean it is extremely hot during the summer.

My one idea that I am going to try is opening one of the outlet valves in the air box, allowing the forced air application to constantly run air in and out of the box. Reason for this idea would be that if its closed off in the box, then its only getting cold air when engine is sucking in air regardless of any forced application. Just not sure if opening a valve in the box is enough.

Any thoughts or ideas? Waste of time?

You would be better off putting some louvers in the hood to let more of the heat out. Short of insulating the air box, and tubing you are getting the coldest air that you can.

I would think the best thing you could do is insulate the airbox and all intake tubing that's under the hood. On my Scanguage when I'm monitoring the intake air charge temp on a 90 degree day it's usually around 95 or so as long as I'm up to speed. At slow speeds and idling it can get up to around 115 or more due to heat soak from the engine. I don't know that opening the outlet valve would do much for you. You wouldn't really be increasing airflow while sitting still. Under hood air is hot no matter what. Keeping the incoming air separated from it as much as possible seems like the best solution.

I've also noticed when I first start up after work on a sunny day my intake charge temp will be a little above ambient air temp the dramatically spike up to sometimes over 120, then slowly drop back down as I start driving. I think this is due to the black snorkel getting so hot from sitting in the sun.

Good advice and would probably lean towards the insulation route before the louvers. I like the cosmetic look and functionality of the louvers, but not prepared to cut holes in the hood yet. Would want to do some research on what type of insulation would be applicable, how much of a temperature change would it make and most of all would change make a difference.

Thanks for the info on the temperature read outs you recorded. That's really good information to know.

I honestly don't think I have this problem. My Bully Dog says my air input is normally about 8 degrees warmer then outside when I'm moving and not in traffic? I'm going to have to pay more attention to this number and report back.

The weather is usually much cooler in Canada...sooooo if you moved to Canada you would have higher taxs, free healthcare, frostbite, and cooler air in the intake.:confuseded:
