Everybody has a hometown and almost everyone's hometown has something interesting that it offers or an interesting history.

What makes your hometown special?

Hmmm, the fact that we do not even have a single stop light in town b/c it is so small? Pop ~500 @2010 Census. Awesome. The city website states:

"This area is a sportsman's dream come true, due to the close proximity of fishing in streams, rivers and mountain lakes, camping, boating, hunting, hiking, horseback riding, snow and water skiing, and other sport opportunities. "

I guess that's it? I LOVE where I live. :) Good ol' Melba, ID 83641. Google it, and good luck finding it.

(Note: this is where I live, not where I'm from orig)

I'm originally from Abita Springs, LA, home of Abita Beer!

I currently live in Houma, LA, which is a nice place to live, but I can't think of anything that makes it unique, other than being not far from New Orleans. I guess we are known for being in Cajun Country and home to some truly excellent food, and some really nice hunting and fishing areas.

I come from a town of 2500.. There isn't much, but North Carolina's Civil War Governor was born here.. and a town close to me was the home of Carl Sandburg. Other than that, there isn't too much in Weaverville. We have a quaint little town, nothing much to it.

I consider my Hometown being Pearl, MS. I moved around a lot as a kid and out of all the places I lived I liked Pearl the most. When I was 23 and had a wife and 2 children, I moved all of us out here away from ALL family, to live in my favorite town.

Pearl is home of the Heavy Metal drummer Tommy Aldridge and country music singer LeAnn Rimes.

The town is most known for the 1997 High School shooting spree by Luke Woodham killing three and injuring 7. This was just a year or so before I attended the high school. Also, there was a white supremacist who was stabbed to death in his home then the home was set on fire.

Besides that we have a ever-changing colored clock tower.

I was raised in Osteen, FL. Here is some info from Wikipedia on it...

Osteen, Florida is an unincorporated community located in southwest Volusia County. The Hickory Bluff Preserve, a 150-acre nature preserve with hiking and horse trails is located in Osteen.

History:
Osteen was named after Hezikiah Osteen (1821–1904) a cattle rancher, who with his wife, Susan Gaskins Osteen (1826–1886), originally settled in the community in the 19th century. Prior to Osteen, the community was known as Saulsville. A member of the Osteen family fought for the Confederacy in the American Civil War, and was either wounded or killed in battle. [2] A plaque is dedicated to the founders of the city in the civic center that was built in 1968. The city was once incorporated and the abandoned city hall is located on the corner of Railroad Avenue just west of the post office. Also located within Osteen is the Cypress Point Golf Club, a nine-hole executive length golf course.

Population as of 2000: 2,441

I was originally growing up in the Fairview section of Camden NJ. Which when I was growing up was a great little town. Always kids out playing never any issues. Now Camden has been rated Number ONE a few years in a row as the most dangerous city in the USA. Due to murders, drugs, crime.. and everything else bad.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6555449/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts/t/camden-nj-named-most-dangerous-city/

The summer of 5th grade going into 6th (1996) I moved, to the next town over. I went from a very diverse town to a all white town. Not a single other race in the town. Quite different than i was used to. It was odd to find so many friends asking me what it was like to have a african american friend. Any who... the town I moved to was Gloucester City NJ. The town that was in the Guiness Book Of World Records for having the most amount of bars in a square mile radius. **SCORE** (I tried to located such information and had no luck, mind you this was many years ago) Although from the top of my head i can still count, 10 in less than a square mile.

Other than that I dont have anything else cool. lol

Yup moved there at like 6 months old and lived there for 13 years!! Did you go to school there at all? Like primary/elementary? Oh also morristown has a state park with a cherokee reservation :D

We lived in White Pine..moved when I was 4, but my dad's Guard unit was in Newport, so we went home once a month until 2001 when he retired. I call it home cause I'd rather claim it than nasty *** Smyrna.

My original hometown is Jim Thorpe PA, which has it's name only because they "bought" the body or the rights to have the athlete named...Jim Thorpe...who was pretty big in his day buried there. The "Molly Maguires" who were a bunch of Irish miners who weren't happy with the way miners were being treated were also jailed and hanged there for murdering a bunch of mine bosses. Which in turn helped create the union and also made the jail "famous" for the "haunted" handprint in one of the cells....

My current hometown is Nesquehoning which is 4 miles away from Jim Thorpe is very small and has pretty much nothing of importance in it except for the world headquaters of "Kovatch Mobile Equipment" also known as "KME" which really isn't that important anyway except that it employs most of the people in town. Aside from being right next to my old hometown of Jim Thorpe it is also bordered on the other side by a small town that is actually named "Hometown".

My hometown is Portales, NM. I went to school there at Eastern New Mexico University, the third largest University in NM behind NMSU and UNM.

The city's population

Portales is one of the largest producers of valencia peanuts and the top producer of organic peanut butter. Portales is also home to over 40 dairys.

Clovis man inhabited the area just north of Portales called Blackwater, which is actually closer to Portales than Clovis.

The Llano Estacado or "staked plains", named after the Yucca plants dotting the land, was once Comanche territory.

The US territorial settlement of Portales occurred in the late 19th century as cattle herders discovered a water source emanating from a rocky ledge resembling a Spanish porch. The local watering hole took on the name "Portales", and a few settlers began ranching nearby.

Probably the most notable person to live in Portales would be Jack Williamson, Science fiction author.
