Any home brewers out there?? I bought my Pops everything he needed for homebrewing for fathers day one year after I talked to a hops farmer.

Our first brew was a stout that came out like a Guinness. Wish I took pix of the progress.

Please post up and share the brews you've made, recently making, recipes, supply products, etc.

For those wanting to give homebrewing a shot, I strongly recommend the following...

Not really. I (we) need to though.

Couldn't brew this summer with the record temps; but I'm hoping to start with my Pops sometime soon. I like the father son thing when it comes to brewing so it also depends on when he's ready to rock.

I believe the next brew we want to try is a bitter lager, like a Shiner Bock.

Get the books first. They will list everything you need to get started.

The keys to a brewing, is to sanitize EVERYTHING and to be patient. If you can do those two things, everything else will fall into place.

I'm looking at starting once I get back. Having said that assuming I don't mess it up there may be some free beer come nXm.

My first 2 all grain batches are ready. I was doing kits and one partial mash but the smell made it so I wasn't allowed to do it in the house. I made a 3 tier gravity stand and now I can't decide what to brew next. I'm thinking a Saison or some type of wheat beer to be ready for summer.

This is something I've always wanted to try. But never had the motivation to get everything together

It's just another very addicting and expensive hobby. Some people are good at it, others should just stick to drinking the results.
I can let you know sometime when I have a brew day after I move in, check it out.

Usually make it into a day thing - drink beer, brew beer, cook out, drink more beer, talk about Xterras while drinking/brewing beer, etc

It can be expensive or cheap depending on how serious you get about it. You can get some pretty great results doing things cheap and sticking to a minimum amount of equipment and doing extract stuff. I have about $500-$600 in my 3 tier gravity stand including 2 converted kegs and the cooler mash tun, a couple propane burners and all the fittings and the wort chiller.

In Canada beer is a lot more expensive so making your own saves a lot of money compared to how much you save in the USA. I can make 5 gallons for $25-$40 depending on ingredients and to buy the same amount of the cheap stuff would cost at least $120. When you end up being a beer snob the price is obviously a lot higher.

I figure that i need to make about 6 more 5 gallon batches with my current set up and just the savings will have paid for everything. Never mind the fun involved and the crazy amounts of good beer you end up with.
