I live in Yuma, AZ and purchased a project 02 Nissan Xterra (facelift?). It is 4x4, 3.3L Automatic with 206,000 miles. The goal is to drive this vehicle around town and to do the off-road and camping thing. I have always been into small Suzuki vehicles but wanted something with more comfort and room for a car seat. so I hope I made an upgrade here. Thanks

Welcome Husker! I love the small suzukis too, but the xterra is great in its own way and I think you did make an upgrade. Any pics?

We are a helpful, chatty bunch, so let us know if you have questions!

It's nice to meet you.
So, I took a chance a purchased this as a project. It was way less money than what I sold my Tracker for so I had some money to fix it up. I was looking for a smooth running engine, 4x4 and AC. It had those things. It had a solid, "service engine soon'' light on but everything seemed pretty normal. The owner said he had to bypass the alarm with a jumper fuse at some point and that is why the light came on, but I figured it was something else. Come to find out the code was for "trouble communicating with TCM". It was also low on trans fluid but didn't leak. It also had a broken leaf spring and the front bumper looked to be pushed in some by the towbar they had. I think it idles a little high in Park and Neutral.

I replaced:
Leaf Springs, shocks and struts, rear window regulators, coolant overflow tank, radiator fan, tires, bumper and grill. I have a used TCM on standby. Trying to bring this vehicle back to life.

Here it is as of now.

Welcome from Hawaii. I moved from a geo tracker to the Xterra many years ago. Trackers are a blast to drive but can’t carry a thing. I love driving my 2002 Xterra too though and my kids grew up with it. Still love this truck
