Help a guy out?

Alright guys and gals, I had my interview today, and I feel like it went REALLY well. I was getting nothing but good vibes from the two guys I talked with. One of them happens to know my wife's aunt's husband, the guy who owns the garage I've been helping out at. The other one knows a guy who I used to work with when I worked at Yankee Hill Machine, and he's familiar with my hometown. Small world connections coming together, haha.

The manager said he'd give me a call in one week and let me know either way, and I don't want to jinx anything but I really feel good about this one. Great benefits package, great job perks, 20 minutes from home, and the work seems pretty easy yet still engaging - so I won't get bored. I've been all amped up about this since I got out of the interview and just thought I'd share here. Thanks for reading :)

Also thanks for all the words of encouragement! :D !

Church any news?!!!

Still waiting for Monday to come, that's when the manager will call me with the final verdict.

Also on Monday I've got another interview at a very established shop who I actually used to do work for at my last job. I'm very familiar with their parts, which I'm sure looks good. The downside to that job is that the drive is a little further than ideal, the hours sorta suck, and it's through a staffing agency so they'd be taking a cut of my earnings.

All in all I'm really holding out for the place I interviewed at last Monday. Also I still have a fallback job lined up if all else fails.

Well, today's interview went well, though I don't have high hopes for getting the job. I tried to sell myself without going overboard, but I'm not sure how receptive the guy was to it. He didn't do a great job of selling the company or job to me, I know that much. I'll let them decide if I get this job or not.

On the other hand...I got the awaited call back from the last shop, they want to see me again this Thursday. I feel really good about this, as I don't believe they'd schedule another interview with me if I didn't get the job...but he didn't say anything either way over the phone.

My best guess is that they called me back for this Thursday to let me know they'd like to give me the job, then talk pay and have me sign some papers and whatnot. Time will tell.

In the meantime, I'll be driving back to Hinsdale NH tomorrow to finish up a job I've been working on. Gasket job on an Oldsmobile minivan...upper and lower intake, valve covers, and all the little things that had to come apart to do the job. I'm getting paid directly by the customer for this job, and they set the rate pretty high, so I'll at least be making some decent money for a few days while I wait :tunes:

Just found, and read through, this thread and am glad to hear that things are starting to look up a bit. I will continue to send good thoughts your way until everything gets worked out. I too believe in karma, and believe that there are good things coming your way :).

Guess who's got two thumbs and a new job?

It's hard to take a decent mirror selfie with both your thumbs in the shot, haha.

But yes! Landed a job, finally! The pay is less than ideal but we'll make it work, I figured I had to stop splitting hairs over money so I just took the offer. I start next Monday the 24th!

Thanks everyone! :)

Yes, this job is about 20 minutes from home, and the more people I talk to, the more people I find I have in common with past coworkers and/or workplaces, haha. Machining is kinda like that I guess.

I'm 2 days in and so far I like the job. I'm running lathes, which I have very little experience with, and cutting more exotic materials than I'm used to as well. Definitely back to square one on the learning side of things, but it's fun and challenging and the guys teaching me are a pleasure to work with.

I'm a long ways from "comfortable" yet, but I'm getting there and from what people are already saying, I'm doing a great job - better than expected actually. (Yeah, that's me tooting my own horn.)

It's also really nice to be working an 8 hour shift again. I did 12+ hour shifts for about a year at one job, then at the next for almost 3 years I did 10+ hour shifts Mon-Fri and usually 6+ hours Saturdays and 4+ on Sundays as needed. These 8 hour days are a dream!

Awesome that you're feeling appreciated and can have a lighter work day. Is OT still an option if you wanted it?

Thanks guys.

OT may be harder to come by if everything goes according to plan. The plan is to keep me in a certain cell of 3 machines, with 1 other guy. Once I'm trained enough and fully competent in the job, I'll be going to 3rd shift. The machines run on all 3 shifts, so OT would only be available if the guy ahead of my shift or after my shift is out, and even then there may not be a need for the machines to run, which would mean no OT.

Time will tell though, the plan may not work out and I could end up in a different department or on a different shift.
