Hello everyone
Im trying to figure out whats happening to my poor X. She just started sounding like a 90s pick up truck for some reason. I have no check engine light Or anything coming up for codes on the reader.
I changed my spark plugs about a month ago, and she was perfectly fine. Now from one day to another she has this weird higher pitch when shes over 2000rpms.
Ive checked in the connections and hoses and I see nothing. I read some old threads about the manifold being dirty or a connected hose to fix with epoxy.

well damm I can't upload a video or sound clip of the sound

Dammm you stealership!! $150 to tell me I'm missing some bolts hahaha nope go back and do it again cause thats not causing the sound like a ricer.

Go back and we do the inspection together, no vaccum leaks in hoses. No heat shield rattling. Welp we found the culprit, a exhaust leak between the header and the muffler connection. When I installed new headers and catalytic converters, I put in new gaskets. Well the gasket overheated and dried, causing it to break off from the bottom creaking the leak. Sigh $150 for piece of mind. Dammm you stealership, should have been half off for telling me bolts creaked that sound and I was helping figure it out, yet pull price .

So i was replacing the (4) 2 hole gaskets on my X only to look up to see the cat missing a chunk of the gasket and you can see where the air was bypassing with the tar. Sigh
Money doesnt cost much
Gaskets and some gasket fill, along with a gasket aluminum sheet $50
A few hours of labor with some breskis cause this takes a while to work on the cat with no space. But shes back to running and sounding normal!! Finally

If your inlet gasket to the cat was bad you were sucking in a ton of O2 and causing reading issues. Replace the sensor, unplug your MAF and start the engine to force a MIL and reset your AFR tables back to stock. Then plug in the MAF, clear the code and drive it so it relearns the fuel curve. See if that helps.

Use a good quality sensor. Don't cheap out on emissions parts. It just costs more in the long term.
