Heated Seats

I'm looking to kill 2 birds with one Amazon order, which are:
1) My seats look worn, tired, and the driver's seat cover has some burn holes in it
2) They aren't heated, and I'm a coddled princeling who can't stand waiting for the car to warm up.

So, I'm thing about getting some neoprene seat covers and a universal seat heater kit, but instead of installing the heating pads under the OEM cloth, just attaching them to the backs of the seat covers. As far as I can tell, if the heating pads aren't going to burn factory upholstery, they should be safe to use as I plan to.

Unless someone's already done this and can verify that it's a terrible idea.

I recovered all of my seats with a Road wire leather kit and seat heaters. Re-upholstering seats is not hard, but not exactly easy either.

I've thought about it, but I know it's a time-consuming and somewhat fiddly task, which I'd have to do in an unheated garage, in the winter, where I don't have enough room for both the Xterra and a suitable work space to do it.

I could wait until the weather's warm, but that sort of defies the point of installing heated seats. Plus, I'm one of the 6 people in the known universe who prefers cloth seating in cars.

Kids make leather seats a lot more reasonable. I get your apprehension to do a full re-upholstery. But really, you're outside for 30 minutes while you pull the seat and then you do the swap in your house where it's warm. That's what I did. Haha.

You need a good pair of hogring pliers, a bag of hogrings and a really strong pair of diagonal cutters (dikes as I call them) to remove the old hogrings and some patience. You can. Do the heaters under cloth too. They're rated for it.

I want to do this to my 03. My frontier has heated seats, and now I'm spoiled. My seats could also use some new foam. Wiring is easy, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I don't have kids, otherwise I'd be all about the leather seats. I may end up going the re-upholstery route if my DIY heated seat covers idea doesn't work out, but I'm hoping it does.
