Harbor Freight Jack Stand Safety Recall

I'm more of a "one is none and two is one" guy when it comes to jack stands. Especially after experiencing my first earthquake a couple months ago, that was scary. I don't like getting underneath a vehicle unless there's a lot of stuff in the way of it falling down. Wheels with extra cribbing, an extra jack stand (plus the jack) and even then I don't like to be under there longer than I have to be.

I like getting some things at Harbor Freight (gloves, tarps, brushes, cheap flashlights, some hand tools) but my policy is not to buy anything there that could seriously injure or kill me if it fails.

I am the same way. I was doing some work on my old Lexus ES300 that involved crawling under there. 2 jacks, 2 jack stands, a full sized tire wedged under there, etc. And it still scared me.

That being said, I have the exact jack in the recall...so I am now agreeing with you on your last point: Harbor Freight is good for something that won't kill you if it fails.

So I need to replace the jack stands I took back.

What do you guys feel safe lying under? If just for the X and smaller, 3tons will be fine, right?

Ditto.
When I left X, My habit is tossing WOOD Beams/large Rocks, Tire. Etc. . I view it as IF it falls?, will the support survive the impact??. Fail is not a option.
Friend Rolled up to a random fellows house spotted Vehicle in odd angle & human form next to it., His jack failed. D.O.A. Human melon does not fair well...

secure your load.. Same with Winching.. overkill on safety.. somewhere is a nice photo of a Jeep with a Shackle through front seat thumping driver.
OOps diverted from subject..

Oh damn.. I've always used stands and left the jack there too but I've seen too many things recently that'll make me use everything..
