Halo headlights

ok, I was looking into getting some halo ring ring headlights, and was wondering which one you guys think are the best. I do not like the SpecD headlight assembly, because I have heard from several people that they are not very good quality. I was looking at putting Oracle Halo rings on my car, but they only make a kit for the 1 gen xterra, not the 2 gen (which I have). http://www.automotivelightstore.com/xterra.aspx

I hear about a thing called retrofitting, which puts the rings in your current stock headlight assembly, but many people have said that they are not legal on the road. So does anyone have any experience with these, and have any suggestions on what to do, or what to buy? The help would be great.

These are the retrofit kits I found, but are not road legal:

Cool lights. Have you tried calling the company and asking about gen2's? Seems like they would make a hen 2 version given all the other nissan models they support.

If you want to get technical, changing your stock headlight housings at all is illegal depending on local laws. At the very least, the replacement housings have to be DOT and SAE approved. If they're not, then they're illegal for street use.

Secondly, replacing halogen headlights with HID's is illegal. And even if you don't care about that, putting HID bulbs in housings that are not designed for them is a douche move. Weather it's your factory halogen housings or some aftermarket housings that have projectors but are still built for halogen bulbs.

This means that technically, retrofits are illegal also. The difference is, you are installing an HID compliant projector into your halogen housings. This is an involved process, but if you want modern headlights, it's the right way to do it. Depending on how you finish it and how well of a job you do, it can pass for stock as the housings will still read DOT/SAE on them. So if you leave all the new parts shiny and chrome the whole thing can look like it came that way.

Now, directly to your question of Halos. They are specifically an addition to projector headlights. So if you want halos, you have to do projectors first. Whether you do it with replacement headlights or doing a retrofit, is up to you.

Those halos that you liked to are weird. I've never seen anything like that. And as personal opinion, I think it's ugly.

Thank you for the input. I am going to tJunk about the headlights some more and decide whether it is worth the time and money, especially if I could spend the money on a different better mods.

Speaking from experience, if you go the retrofit route, get the gear from TRS. and buy a new set of headlights. The plastic that the headlights are made of fades and clouds over time. So if you get new ones you'll have optical clarity. Then if you cover them with a clear film from someone like Laminix. They'll stay that way.

My friend has retrofitted several headlights now (link to sweeneyp) and recommends buying a new sets just in case you happen to f-up your unit. Its easy to make an irreversible mistake about midway through.
