Not a VH41 huh? :sure:

Cuz it's a VH45!

Nice work on that exhaust too. Since it's not going into your Pathy any more, and your wife's Pathfinder has plenty of power, that leaves the Hardbody (which you're taking the engine out of to put into your Pathy for Alaska), your turbo VG is going into your NisJeep tubeworx chassis, so this leaves your own Xterra with its stock engine and badly whining transmission.

Gee ( <-- see what I did there? I kill me!!!! ), I just don't know what you're doing with that 305hp V8 with the 5spd manual transmission and your round 6 t-case adapter to allow any round 6 t-case onto the back of a Nissan transmission. I just can't think of anything.

Ah well, I'm sure it will come to me. I probably just need to have another beer or something.

Its a series 1 (early) VH45DE, the pump and oil pan aren't stock for a VH. I'm sticking a series 2 in my S14 240sx, and if all goes well once that is up and running I want to try and put one in the X.

kind of funny that you have that block ready to go, because there is a certain first gen frontier on 37's here in central ohio with that same motor waiting to go in...

Can't wait to see the progress.

We talked about the front axle.. but what is that sitting in the rear? also those tucked springs are awesome.

The Isuzu Rodeo was the first to come out with the HD Dana 44 in 1998. It is close enough to the new Wrangler that certain parts can be exchanged back on forth.

The Rodeo axle comes with our same 6 lug bolt pattern. It also has the support that comes with a Dana product.

It is 63ish wide with disk brakes, parking brakes in the hat of the disks, wrangler guts, reasonably priced gears, and the ability to choose whatever locker you want.

Mine has a Detroit Truetrac, HD 44 4.88's, and a standard Dana Yoke.

The 233b that comes with the X is a fine axle... but it is no longer used in any new vehicle and has a limited amount of support.

Heck Nissan uses Dana products now..

I have heard a lot about that D44 out of the late nineties Rodeos, I think that might be a more viable option for a rear axle swap. Once I get a real job with real money I will talk to you and the others more. That is why I really want to swap both axles, for future maintenance costs.

Ok, your right, sorry.

That would be 3.5 options, maybe closer to 3.25. :kewl:

Sometimes the silly little things are the best part..

I loved every second while taking out the ABS... it also allowed for room an Old Pathfinder WW reservoir.

It has two pumps and the same wire colors as the Xterra... No more busted up reservoir under the bumper..

A previous conversation on the topic of engine swaps has me curious now: You should swap in a GTR motor for giggles.

Kidding aside, this is a slick and very well put together ride. I'm digging your build thread a lot.

Add to the fact that he just pulled a twin turbo VG30 out of his Pathfinder to put the hybrid VG out of his Hardbody into it, he was closer to the GTR than anything else.

Mad scientist he is!

Some day, after I graduate school, I want to have as money and time to be able to play with ideas like he does. Some day, oh there will be a 'some day' for me!

With Cyclemut selling his X, and some neat prospects happening in my future. The crazy engine projects are probably going to the back burner. The priority right now is to just get rigs up and running. I have been tinkering on and off with Datsuns for almost 30 years.. I feel a couple year break coming around the corner. Plus, nothing Nissan is making in the future floats my boat...

Any updates as of late? Aroundabouts what year Pathy did that windshield washer reservoir come from? I am going to need to relocate mine and since I am doing a SAS I'll be ditching the ABS stuff too. And what did you end up replacing the Nissan brakes with, just out of curiosity? If you don't want to share, I understand :(

87-95 pathy tank.

It matters which rear axle you use. The stocker rear tends to work ok with the Chevy/waggy front brakes (d44) and the stock master.

For a little more braking power the Chevy brake master works well. I think it is the 78 Chevy 3/4 ton master. We normally use the NAPA "Premium" unit... it just works better and doesn't leak.

If you don't use the 233b for the rear axle this all changes....

I have answered the quota for the month... Now all the web weenies can act like they know something when this comes up... :sure:

Haha, thanks for the info! I got a line of the washer fluid reservoir so I should have that here in not too long. As for the rear, we're sticking with the stock rear axle but regearing it to 5.54s and only going SOA for now. Going with a Diamond Axle H233B for the front with Dana 60 inner Cs and shafts ;) Should be fun.

And what do you mean "for folks who use us?" Do you run a shop? I have been in awe with your fab work and just figured you had all these bad ass fab tools in your garage ;) Any plans in the near future for your rig? Or are you completely done with questions until next month?

He's done answering questions until January. ;)

And yes, we have a facility (sitting a little ways from my house) that's 1800 square feet of whatever-it-needs-to-be that we can build most anything out of. So the "anyone that uses us" statement is relevant on several different levels.

A good chef doesn't teach his patrons how he prepares the steak, one simply pays for it and enjoys the hell out of it. Kind of how we operate, he just tells you he uses some salt and pepper during his steak prep, but they're not the only ingredients though. And he's a Master Chef!

Great, now I want a steak. See what you did?! :sure:
